I'm torn about the specs, I sold my e92 and waited for this car with a lot of anticipation.
I have no doubt it will be an improvement but I'm not setting off fireworks yet looking at the torque and HP numbers. 430hp and 390tq is not something that keeps me up at night with excitement. Even though BMW is known for conservative numbers I would've been a lot more excited with 450hp and 420tq numbers. Only because the weight reduction is something that most drivers will not notice. 80kg ??? Sure it's better than nothing at all but insignificant in everyday driving. Having said that, I will definitely be test driving one as soon as they're out at my local dealer but I can't help but think why the M division couldn't squeeze out a little better numbers to truly distance themselves from the Audi RS and C63 for ex.... |

This thread is a flashback to 2008 (E46 to E9X transition) for me.
A lot of chestbeating of current M car owners justifying why their car is supreme.

BUT also surely the S65 was in M terms an much better M engine than the S55 - more refined, more unique, more emotions, more spirit and lastly produced in the famous "Sondermotorenbau" in Munich like all really great BMW engines. |

I don't know. I just sat in a C7 Z51/3LT with every extra imaginable.
It was dealer over-stickered at $75K and was only 3298 lbs as well. Same exact thing that was going on when the E9x M3 was announced. Lot's of opinions based on engine configuration etc etc... Today the E9x crowd, and many others, argue the E9x is THE best M3 and that the new will be a disappointment. Yes, the F8x might be a disappointment. It's just interesting to see history repeat itself. As it probably also will when the F8x is up for replacement. Then the F8x will be touted as the greatest M3/M4 and the next will be a disappointment based on some particulars of it's specifications... |

I am really looking forward to the reviews...
I love my S65 but there is no doubt each new M3/M4 (ew at the name) will be better than the last gen. That's a fact. If in 4 years there is a special CSL or car with performance package, I might bite however this time, I am going all lightweight with very little options. I rarely use the navigation for example.

Need more information. Hopeful some color guide or options list will end up here before the NAIAS intro. Hopefully pricing will be leaked too and are the official stats revealed or are we expecting to hear more accurate info at intro, like torque closer to 400 as opposed to stating above 369. Come on BMW, spill the beans and let the ordering begin.

You mean the intercooler right?
Isn't that a water to air cooler? Seems very much so from the pictures... And it is also described as a "indirect intercooler", meaning it's a water to air cooler: http://www.behrhellaservice.com/behr...om-en/308.html Quote:

I like the weight loss and increased torque, but only a 16hp increase? I feel like its a step in the right direction, but it's only a step.
The numbers didn't live up to the hype. Based on the interview with the head of the M division earlier on, the weight ended up being on the high end of his estimates, while the torque and HP ended up being on the low end of his estimate. Wish it was reversed. With the dilution of the M brand and the less than impressive numbers, I'm leaning at a No.

The C7 was designed from the ground up to be a lighter weight 2 seat sports car. The M3/M4 will certainly be no slouch in performance but more comfortable on the road and will have a fair amount of technology/luxury, and seating for 4. Both great cars, both different. |

When will M3 compete with Nissan GTR? ... wtf
Or, how about just compete with Vette... please. Why isn't the engine size bigger than 3.0L for the M. Damnit. So now we're just buying a "BMW." Meh. I'll keep the V8 and supercharge to get that torque I desire. This 3.0L looks like they squeezed every last inch out of the turbo they could. You can only make a scooter engine so powerful.

The M3 has never about being the fastest/highest HP car out there. It won many awards for being the best balanced vehicle with a good mix of sport, luxury, and technology. The new M3 will not differ much from that winning formula, but stock for stock will be faster than the e9x generation. If there is to be criticism/comparison it should be with its peers: C63, ISF, ATS-V, etc... Given that the next c63 will probably have a twin turbo v8 and be lighter than the current car, it may further surpass the future M3 in acceleration and BMW better be paying attention--maybe increased boost ala LCI competition pack. Even though the Vette/GTR/911 are often cross shopped by M3 owners, BMW will not compete directly with those sports cars with the M3. |

How much more "last place" can you get than that? The Kia Optima is more lavish and high-tech. Every other maker in Germany is putting out something better. What gives??? |

I guess it's down to personal preferences, and perhaps BMW needs to rethink. But I really prefer the BMW 3-series interior over it's competition. And at least it's a BIG improvement over the E9x!!! |
