Going from Vert to Coupe

I ordered a M4 convertible, put the deposit down, signed the papers and 6 weeks later I'm told that they can't fulfill my order.... they don't have an allotment for a convertible. So. I am considering going to a coupe. I currently have E93 and LOVE it. I wondering if anyone here has gone from convertible to coupe? Did you enjoy it as much?

I have an E93 and F80.

Completely different class of cars.

I love both but I give the edge to the F80. The E93 is heavy and isn’t as sharp despite me upgrading every single component of the suspension (coilovers, camber plates, sway bars, end links, aluminum subframe/diff bushings, solid shock mounts, toe arms, brakes/rotors, m3 control arms front and rear, etc.).

The only thing left to do is monoballs and I’m done with the E93

If I had to pick one to go on a long distance cruise, it would be the E93. If I wanted to drive like an ass, F80 lol

The dealer should be able to negotiate with another dealer to get an allocation for you. They should also be able to try to locate a convertible with your options that is available from another dealer.

That's what I was told when I put the deposit down. Then, after 6 weeks, I get this bomb dropped on me.

In the future, negotiate a price but don’t let them run credit or take a deposit until they can provide you a production number ie allocation. I’d get my deposit back and go to a dealer who will.

Hey, I made the switch from F83 to F82. The below is a copy and paste job from this post discussing the same: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1622586

I originally had an F83, but certainly felt the slightest twist of the chassis quite often on the non-compliant back roads we have here in the UK. Was great for the few months of sunshine we get, and the sound of opening up the engine was so much more visceral.

However I was quite surprised at how quickly dust and dirt built up in the interior. If you're in London (like me), the air quality is crap, especially when sitting around in traffic as in most cities, thus would somewhat further diminish the convertible experience.

Regarding some comments about the difference in seats - thinking back the F83 were more comfortable, but less adept in keeping you in place when really pushing it, whether on track or on the road.

Ended up taking an F82 for an extended test drive, which felt so much more solid and planted on the road. Slight noticeable difference in power, but ultimately the additional rigidity of the chassis was the contributing factor- I made the switch just over a year after purchasing the F83, and haven't looked back ever since!

Funny, I read your thread. It turned into the "vert is slower" argument, which isn't really important to me, since I won't be tracking the car. I was wondering if any of the vert owners, who switched to coupe regretted their decision or couldn't live the coupe.

I went from an F82 to F83. Both are great cars for what they are but they are not really comparable / interchangeable. If you really want a convertible don’t get the coupe, get the dealer to find you a convertible or buy a different model or brand. If you don’t really care about having a convertible then get the coupe.

If I didn't want a convertible i'd go for the m3 for the more aggressive hips and practicality of a 4 door. Realistically there is no way to take this car to the limit without tracking it - which i'll never do, so I could care less about the extra weight and rigidity. If it were me I'd seek out another f83

I just dropped the top tonight with my new exhaust system installed today. It's essentially straight pipe with both valves open. I couldn't stop smiling the entire time. So loud and intoxicating. When I pull back into the neighborhood, shut the valves with the remote and it's more quiet than stock

Tempting proposition, although life is pulling me towards an X5 and an M4 combination, despite the M4 having Isofix rear seats!

Have both a 2016 F83 M4 and 2018 F15 X5 with M Sport. Best of both worlds for us.

I am on my 3rd BMW retractable hardtop convertible - 2007335i E93, 2015 M4 F83 and 2018 F83 Competition Pack. I have no illusions of any of them being race cars or track cars. When I want to play race car driver I have access to dedicated track cars so the fact that the coupe is a lighter, faster and better track car is irrelevant to me as I have no intention of tracking the M4 and both the coupe and convertible have levels of performance that can't be responsibly approached on public roads and I have more practical cars if I need to carry people or stuff.

Yesterday was a picture perfect New England Autumn day in Northwest Connecticut, 68 degrees, sunny and foliage at its peak. I put the top down on the F83 and took it for a ride on some of the twisty back roads around here. For me the experience of a top down drive in that environment far outweighed any (essentially unusable on that drive) superior performance of the coupe.

I am biased, so take this with a grain of salt. The coupe absolutely kick ass over the sedan IMNSHO. A vert coupe would be fun, but not my style. ( and the crowd changes "coupe - Coupe - COUPE!!" )

I would be happy with either the coupe or the convertible, they are both wonderful cars. But have craved a convertible for years so went with that and haven't looked back. I do agree that you can notice some twist when angling over driveways and such, but other than that (and possibly tracking, which is not in my plan) it's not a factor. As Audio has said above, top down on a fall day is too sublime for me to "slum" it in a coupe
