Tire Sensor Temp. Accuracy?
So I just took the new F80 on a long trip and got some time to play with stuff in the idrive system. Towards the end of the trip, I noticed that in the TMP indicated that my left from tire pressure was one degree lower than the other tires (31 vs 32 in the others).
However I also noticed that the Temp. sensor for the left front was a a full 5 degrees higher than the others (88 vs 83, 82 and 82). Is the Temp. Sensor accurate? Should I be concerned?

They won't heat up evenly, that doesn't mean anything after one trip. Something might be off if it's always the same tire that heats up, regardless of driving and conditions outside. Sensors seem fairly accurate.

My temp sensors are routinely over 90 degrees and differ by tire. I wouldn't give it a second thought for daily driving.

Keep in mind also, after parking the car for awhile, depending on the side of the car gets blasted by sun, tires on that side would have hire temperature.
Dynamic load on each of the four corners also have direct impacts on the tire temperatures. |

If it makes you feel better, my M3, Range Rover Sport and F150 tire pressure/temp varies at time from tire to tire. Like mentioned before, sun exposure, turning one way more than the other, a lot of accelerating/braking etc all puts different stresses and factors in varying temps/pressures for each tire

At track this weekend I saw temperature variance from 148F-156F over the four tires while driving. I'm sure it's not calibrated, but it was interesting to see near the end of a session.

My left front consistently reads high as others have stated. Here's why I think this is not a sensor accuracy issue: first, the other 3 corners while usually not exactly the same never show a variance of more than a half pound. Second, the percent difference at the left front never seems to vary compared to the other three. I have a 16 F82 & my brother has a 15 F82. I mention this because there was a TPMS part number change in November 2015 yet our cars show exactly the same behavior regarding the left front. imo this leaves two possibilities: 1) there is either a heat source or there is reduced venting in the left front of the car or, 2) fat drivers.
Maybe the thing to do here is ask our UK and Japan members if they also see this......on the left, that is. |

Here's the thermal image from the other thread. The oil cooler is right in front of the left tire. But I like to think it's from being fat.

I was thinking to ask same question for tpms accuracy. I used automatic compressor- it inflates or deflates to match the setting. Even after that my tires are never showing same pressure.

Mine pretty much matches within 1 PSI of each other after I set the pressure. I always set the pressure when the car has been sitting overnight and the sun hasn't come out yet.

If you had to drive to the location with the compressor, then the tires won't be all the same temp when you fill them up. When I fill mine in my climate controlled shop after sitting overnight with my fill gauge that reads to the 0.1psi, the TPMS will show all 4 tires exactly the same.

I would not be so worried about standard street driving temps. 1 psi difference will not make a difference. Yea I have heard plenty of people blaming tire pressures for them being idiots. Standard street driving will not put stress on the tires to make a difference.
Since I track my car multiple times a year and running a winter set, I have my wheels off my car quite a bit. I am always checking tire wear across the tire. I see pressure fluctuations all the time yet I still have even tire wear.
