BMW M4 Performance Side Skirts Installation

Can anyone explain how I can install the side skirts myself without having the dealer do the install? I'm assuming the skirts come with 3M tape and maybe some screws? I'd really appreciate some guidance!

Rivets and/or self tapping screws

Bump for someone who has done this: The instructions aren't clear on one thing - are we drilling into the body on the bottom? O_O

Or is this doing something else?

Drilling the side skirts / side sills, yes.

Instructions were very confusing. But the install was very easy. Just clean under the car. Attach the side skirts with 3m tape that is already on the skirt. Than drill holes in car through the holes that are already on the skirts. And than put in the rivets. Done.

The skirts line up with the car perfectly. There is a small rivet at the end of the skirt that helps guide the placement of the skirt on to the car.

Thanks, did you also use betalink? Since drilling the oem skirts will have holes that sucks.

Are holes drilled in the OEM skirts or the plastic under tray?

I had the same problem. I have used my car jack to push the screws into the rivets.

ok. here is the deal with this install. unfortunately no one tells us what size self tapping screws are needed. I searched high and low and found only one reference to "approximately 1 inch in length". that is wrong. the real length is 1/2" and the size is a #10 screw. Also some mentioned that they just drilled into the side skirts to mount these. Ummm. No they did not along the frame rail. here is what I learned. you need to drill a small pilot hole for the #10 screw. Then if you have a 1/2 inch length you are fine. just use the 3m tape that is already on the parts and stick it to the underside of the skirt (after cleaning it thoroughly with rubbing alcohol). then drill your pilot holes in each of the 15 holes. then just gently tighten in each of the #10 by 1/2 inch screws that you bought somewhere until they just get snug.

I just went to the store to buy the 1/2”, they look too short to get through the the side sill and into the skirt. Like 1/4” had threads the other 1/4” was the self tapping head.

You can't go any longer as they will hit the frame rail. you just need them long enough to get through the skirt and bite into the plastic covering. Just snug them up and you will be fine. The 3M tape does most of the heavy lifting here so make sure that you have cleaned the area really well and rubbed it all down with rubbing alcohol. I used some self tappers and I also used a few of the factory rivets. As others have suggested the rivets are really hard to push in so use the jack to push them in.

Mine have been on for over a year now and are still nice and snug. No gaps at all.
