2015 F82 M4 Winter Tire recommendation
Hi Guys:
I living in Chicago and it is about to snow at the end of the month. So, I am deciding to get a set a snow tire and wheel set up. I am on OEM 18" 513M style wheels. I am planning to purchase a set of Enkei wheels in 18 9.5 but I am not sure whether it is a good wheel for mount winter tires on. I am looking at Sottozero 3 and Blizzak. But I am not sure whether I need it in run flat or not. Can anyone give me some suggestions? Id really appreciate it. |

I run 18" BBS Xr's (cheap) with Michelin X-Ice winter tires (studless). Definitely not as scary as all-season tires and got me through a couple heavy snows (knock on wood).
I paid ~$2k back a year and half ago and I think they are still offering something similar.... Alternatively, lots of people go with APEX's (they are just a little pricey). Good luck. |

I *just* bought my winter setup from Tirerack, like 5 minutes ago. I went with cheap wheels because winter (18x8 Alutec Drive) and 245/45R 18 Blizzaks. Mounted/balanced, with TPMS sensors and shipped was $1789. There’s a $50 rebate on the tires i think, so i’m pretty happy with a full winter setup for around $1700.
As to run-flats or not, I suppose that depends on how vicious your local roads are, and how much you plan to drive. Our roads in NH are bloody terrible, to be sure, but I don’t plan to drive much as I WFH and have a truck for really bad weather. |

I would skip the runflats.
The one nice thing about winter tires is usually you have a lot more sidewall to absorb potholes and such. Speaking of, winter tires need to go on this weekend for me. |

I'm running 18" BBS SR and Michelin X-Ice. I think I paid ~$2K Cdn for the set. I'm very happy with the pair.

I'm running Michelin PA4 on stock 19" wheels, located in Calgary ,Canada. Totally ok with it for a Canadian winter and you can have some fun with it. Good performance in cold dry weather, solid traction in big snowfall.

I'm running Sottozero 3's on my F80. They're pretty good performance tires, but traction in snow (e.g. going uphill) could be better.

I have 18"x9.5" ET22 Apex wheels with square 255/40R-18 Vredestein Wintrac Pro XL tires. They are performance winter/snow instead of studless ice/snow. I live in Iowa and have family in Wisconsin so drive in the snow/winter often and do like them. However, I did do a winter autocross that was very snowy/icy and they didn't perform as well as I had hoped. I believe studless ice/snow would've performed better, but overall I do like them. They are a fair amount less expensive that the Pirellis as well. The Vredestein are not run flat and I don't see why run flat would be necessary, either.
I think if you really want better handling in true snow/ice conditions, the studless tires are probably better, but if you're more just wanting tires that will perform decent enough in some snow while just being better at really cold temps, these tires (or other performance winters) will do the job. |

Get an undercoating to preserve the car in the winter… And the Blizzaks
You could also score a set of used OEM 640M winter alloys, they're made for 255 section tyres as well
