Would be interesting to see a picture of each engine bay to see how different it looks.

Could be that yours without clear was part of a batch of Fire Orange, so went through the normal line and got Robot applied clear.

If its just 1 car going through they generally dont use the regular line as the paint wasted a large for 1 vehicle this way.

Don't know how I didn't ever comment here, as I was with JcLusso when this epiphany evolved, I believe, partially due to my car.

Full individual, Le Mans Blue. Not only is my underhood not clearcoated, but my entire engine bay including underhood is black, not LMB. I feel highly gipped.

Not random but colour dependent

San Marino is a difficult colour to paint.
Regensburg and Munich cannot paint those on the regular line so have a 2nd hand painting line.
Other individual colours are easier to paint and can be done on the regular line.

Regensburg and Munich cannot add the hand painted bodies back into the paint line for clear coat.

Dingolfing on the other hand can take cars off the regular line temporarily for hand painting and then place them back on the line for clear. So M5 or M6 in San Marino dont have clear under the hood.

The robot applied powder clear system cannot do under the hood.
In the factories where wet clear is applied by hand they also do it under the hood.
Perfect, logical explanation - are you sure you belong on a forum?

Thanks, I was really curious why the cars were different. Makes me wish (a little) that I had ordered San Marino! :

Is it because mine is an M4 and the M3s are painted at a different factory?

Could very well be

It also seems M4 in Ferrari Red are clear coated while on the M3's they are not.

We need to find a couple more Fire Orange M3 and M4 to check

Yes, certain colours seem to get a black coating under the hood. Monte Carlo Blue being another I have seen

Dont feel bad, I believe many Rolls Royce also get this by design

Being totally sarcastic. Couldn't really give a shit as long as the outside looks proper. It would be nice if the entire structural shell and engine bay were painted the same color and cleared, especially on the individual cars, but it does zero to dampen my enjoyment of the car.

*edit: Photos added. Excuse the dirtiness of the first one, it was photo from the Euro Delivery.

I do agree about the enjoyment part, I just appreciate the extra detail.

This F83 M4 Convertible is also not cleared.
The F83 is also built in Regensburg with the F80

Makes me think Regensburg gets enough demand for Fire Orange to go through the regular line.

If the F82 M4 Coupe is indeed cleared it mean Munich is not getting enough demand for Fire Orange M4's to go through its regular line.

Well now, this F82 M4 is not cleared under the hood

Seems we are going to have to see proof of one that is cleared in Fire Orange.
I have not found any pictures of one

That's an interesting point, however I'm almost 100% sure there is notably more San Marino cars out there than fire orange...

Is the M4 (coupe) now available in Fire again? Iirc it wasn't for a couple of years because the paint facilities there couldn't cope with the multiple stage process for fire orange (5 stages I've heard??)

I also thought M3 was Munich not Regensburg and M4 was Regensburg? Could be entirely wrong on that though.

Fire Orange has a 2 stage base.
So its Primer, Base 1, Base 2, Clear
Regular cars are Primer, Base 1, Clear

The basic formula for Fire Orange is Primer (Silver), Base 1(white+black mixed), Base2 (Orange+Yellow+White+Black mixed)

M3 is Regensburg
M4 Convertible is Regensburg
M4 Coupe is Munich

Hand painted ones will probably be a bit thicker.
Machine painted should be the same as regular ones

Wish we could get more sold facts and video of actual Individual models being painted at Regensberg/Munich

For now those that missed it can see a bit of Dingolfings (5,6,7 series) huge Individual paint line

I wish the other Nardo guys would chime in and let us know if the underside of their hoods and engine bays are painted clear like mine. All of the other Nardo's are M3's, so I'm not sure if that'll make a difference or not.
