Whining sound at low speed

Does everyone's car make a slight whining sound when going slow speeds? Sounds like a siren/whine sound.

Sounds starts around five seconds

Oh yeah it does it under load or in neutral

Yeah car is in neutral, stand still and makes that noise.

Here is another video. Sorry about the fire truck.

BTW, is that normal for the diff to make that kinda noise?

Any chance you could make a longer video? This time with as little ambient noise as possible, first half window up second half window down. tbh, I think I hear what you might be talking about but there's so much racket in those videos that I can't be sure. For now however I can tell you that I don't have any "whining" sounds at all. (16 DCT)

If you bring up the noise issue with the SA, do let us know what he has to say.

Mine makes this faint whining noise. It's coming from the engine - I put it down to intake noise? Seems so subtle and no vibration or anything. I might get the dealer to swap the diff fluid out next service see if its that.

I posted a thread in the GTS subforum before seeing this. I have a similar noise that's been diagnosed as differential noise, and supposedly normal. Mine is not anything I'd describe as 'slight', though. It's quite loud and gets much louder with throttle input. But then again, the GTS supposedly has much less insulation than the normal M4.

It's all fine by me if there's nothing wrong with the car. The dealer said everything checks out, so...:

Just say much other than an annoying noise. I might see if I can take a new m out and see if it does that same type of whine

Just test drove a 2018 m3 with comp and it made the whining noise. When asked the dealer said it was the brakes making the noise.

I know what the breaks sound like but this happens at stand still

If everyone is having this type of noise I would take it to the dealership. My SA told me it's the idler pulley.

Just got back from a trip and listened to this video. Mine defiantly does not do that or anything even close. Thanks for the subsequent post regarding the idler pulley, I'll certainly keep that in mind. So I assume you're having that taken care of under warranty, please let us know the results. Thanks.

Just got my car back. No more whining. Sounds just like it did before. Feels good to be back in my car.

Yes, and which one, or was it both pulleys?
