Individual colors lower trade in value?
I am going to make an order this week for one of the last allocations for a F80. I currently have a SS/cohiba but wanted a change. At this time, I have chosen to go with Hera Mica Blue. My question, when I trade this car in 3 years, will I loose more value because of the individual color? I can already hear the salesman say he will have trouble selling the car. Is this a minor concern?

If anything it will raise the value, but more than likely it will have no effect on the trade in valuation. I doubt they even notice its an individual color.

Residual value of that $5K will likely be 0, so you're taking a hit there, but with something tame like Hera Mica, it shouldn't be harder to sell. I agree that something wild could potentially decrease value just because most people like white/gray/black.

Interesting - I thought it was already too late to order an F80? Basically, they're only making the M3 CS now, and I was told you can't get individual colors on them? Pretty much pick from the stated list.

Plus the right color and spec could bring more if u sell yourself. You'll always get low balled on a trade in at a dealership. Imola Red ZCP with black leather seats wih red stiching or cloth seats and I'll pay you $4k over what ever a dealer offfers you in 3 years |

Trade in after 3 years? Lease it and don’t worry about it as it should get residualized.
(Also surprised you can still order an F80 with individual color.)

over the years I had a few indiv colors and I have found that we were able to resale them for a little more then a std color. however that was bc that specific color combo was something that was very rare and also the color the buyer wanted. With the limited color options from BMW some indiv colors can be a little exciting for some buyers. Trade in value though a dealer will not pay more for a indiv color for the most part, they "may" pay less if its a color combo they feel will be very hard for them to move in their specific market.

I'm gonna ask the dealer tomorrow. They seemed pretty confident about it. But we know how that works sometimes.

I imagine that dealers will spin it in their favor both ways. When they are selling the car, they'll say "its a rare color.." blah blah, but when you try to sell/trade it in, they will say "Well.. we have to find someone who wants it so..".
Unless, like Golfrr mention, its a particular combo that someone really wants. |

C'mon man, of course they're "confident about it", they want to give you as little as possible for your trade. Tell them you've started a deal with another dealer and watch that individual color get a lot more attractive...

I doubt it would lower the value. I also don't think you can order individual anymore. I think my car was one of the last true individuals to get done.
I guess the USA will continue to have only 2 Hera Mica Blue F80's, haha.

I know you guys are talking about trade-in value a few years after purchase, but if you keep your cars much longer, i think the likelihood that you'll get value out of it is excellent. Look at how rare and individual colors are trading on the E46 M3 and E39 M5 markets these days...
