Dodson clutch upgrade
Hello everyone,
So I just bought another F80 M3. The difference is this time around it has pure stage 2+ turbos, but stock clutches. My big concern with running the stock clutches is that I will run into slipping down the line. I want to do the Dodson clutches but I can't quite justify the $4200 it costs just to buy the part. Anyone have experience with stock clutches on pure turbo's or know where I can get stronger clutches for a little less? |

You gotta think, full effort stock turbo cars are seeing nearly 800 ft lbs at the crank. The reason they slip with bigger turbos is because the torque curve is much flatter, hence more strain for longer of the gear. Have a tuner keep midrange power in check and ramp it in up top and as long as torque doesn't exceed stock turbo figures it should be fine.

I got Dodson clutches pro max with about 2k miles on them if you're interested. Inspected by Kris at ssp. I switched to spec r clutches.

SSP is just clutch plates whereas Dodson is a core swap and fully built clutch not just clutch plates which will hold 1,000+lb/ft tq. and will feel like OEM. SSP Spec R will feel like OEM. As others have mentioned regarding your tune with limited torque you can run OEM. HCP Performance ran 700+ whp on OEM without any issues. That said you want an experienced tuner and get tuned on dyno so you actually know your torque. |
