Question BMW Star DT & DT1 Tire Designations

So I know that tires with the Star are to designate for BMW. I was looking at the Michelin’s Pilot Super Cup 2 in 265/35/19 and also saw that they had some the had the added designation for DT or DT1. Seems like the DT1 also has UTQG of 240 vs the standard 180 for the Star and DT, but is not specifically listed under the 240 PSC2 under the extreme performance Summer tires on Tire Rack.

What is the difference with normal BMW star, DT and DT1 tires?

DT stands for "Different Tread Pattern", which usually means that there are changes in the design of the tread pattern specifically for that car.

If you intend to buy a tire that has DT or DT1 on it, personally I would check if that tire was made for the front or rear wheel and use it accordingly. Otherwise stick with a non-labeled tire.

If the tire just has a star, it simply means that it was made in that size for BMW, but the tire itself isn't necessarily much different than any other Cup 2 tire that not labeled for a particular car company.
