Winter tire setup necessary?

Hello everyone!

Picked up(not exactly, partially) a 2015 F82 M4 Coupe Manual last Saturday. Yet to pick it up from the dealership because of out of state registration. Brought it from Long Island, New York and registering in Massachusetts. With winter approaching, curious to know if getting winter tire set would be absolutely necessary? Want to hear from both the sides.

Thanks!

absolutely!!

summers below 45 deg are hockey pucks and not safe in northeast. It's the rubber chemistry. This has been discussed over and over.

Seconding what Mavus said. 'Summer only' tires can be dangerous in cold temps without any precipitation at all.

Only if you’re planning on driving it in the winter. I’ve seen M3/4’s sliding all over the place when it freezes. I drove my m3 last winter w a set and it works great just be careful w standing high snow.

As before summer tires are dangerous. If you have all seasons that would be fine but kind of a waste to have a m3 w all seasons the rest of the year

I drove to CT and back on Monday from Albany NY. The temps were about 37 degrees in the Berkshires, and in the low 40's most of the trip. The sun was out. I have the PS4S tires and the handling was good. I wouldn't do this in March with the same conditions though. I was monitoring tire temps and 5 min after motion, tire temps were in the 60's.
