Anyone try the Bridgestone RE-71RS on track

I was very disappointed with the Michelin Pilot Sport cup 2 tires on my 2018 M4 competition (with 19" wheels), as this is the first tire I have ever had a 90 degree spin on, and it didn't last 2 months (3-4 track days) before cord was showing. I picked up a set of the new Bridgestone RE-71RS tires to try out next week. The rear tires are rated slightly below recommended load index (96W instead of (100Y), but should not be an issue?

Seems accurate to my own assessment of Cup2's on my F87 CS. I chewed through a set of fronts after 2 trackdays once when I didn't have any camber plates installed yet.

Some guys on the F87 side of the forums love the 71RS' so I'd definitely suggest taking them out and seeing how they stand up to the Cup2's.

I have camber plates on and still the outside cords are exposed. I was pretty hard on them though.

The re-71rs are great, but one aggravating thing is that they don't make a 265/35/19 size for them.

I just got back from Watkins Glen and I tested the Bridgestone Potenza Race tire and a friend was running the new RE71RS on his Supra. I didn't get a detailed review from him on the RE71RS but his laptimes were crazy fast in a stock Supra. The Potenza Race is UNBELIEVABLE but the first shipments appear to only be for Huracan/R8 fitment. There are more sizes coming soon.

I know; I used to run 265/35/19s front and 285/35/19s rear on the RE-71R, but I had to go with 255/35/19 and 275/35/19. I regret now I didn't get the 285/35/19s (for some reason those are available) for the rear as they're load index is also higher.

It's unfortunate because with a 285/255 setup, the car would understeer significantly more. The Advan Neova AD09s are available in 285/35/19 and 265/35/19 though. Has anyone tried these?

To me it was a toss-up between the RE-71RS and the AD09s. I wanted to get the AD052s, but they're on backorder everywhere.

2020 BMW M4   [10.00]
The EAS folks recommended them and so getting them ordered this week. The guys in the shop that track them said they are great. I'm getting camber plates as well. These are replacing my Azenis RT 660's that were destroyed by rubbing of the perch on my front Ohlinds R&T coilovers. Even with a 5mm front spacer they bore a big trench into the back of the tire. Destroyed them. May need a 12-15 mm spacer now. Will run them at the Fontana Speedventures even in early December.

about these tires. I recently ran them, and here's my take from that thread:

3700 lbs with driver and full tank
50/50 cross weight

2x consecutive days at Circuit of the Americas with peak ambient temps in the low to mid 70s.

I tried to keep them ~34psi hot, sometimes going to 35 which seemed ok. Higher than that and I found it obvious because front-end grip would drop off a decent bit. With the above alignment and pressures, I wore them right to the tip of the ∆ front and rear.
I'll compare these to the Falken RT660 since it's previously the fastest tire I've driven on and also the last tire I used.

Pros
  • The lateral grip is great. If you've driven the RT660, the RE71-RS is a hair less but with a hint more slip angle, but this didn't seem to make them slower necessarily.
  • Feedback is excellent and I never felt surprised by the tire. The RT660 has a stiffer sidewall and while turn-in feels fantastic it's borderline excessive and the tire can be shocked a little easily.
  • The slightly softer sidewall/carcass seems to do a good job of damping imperfections, adding confidence and working really well with vehicle.
  • They're audibly communicative as well—something I like.

Cons
  • I think this is the most heat-sensitive tire I've driven. I actually had to let up and let them cool off every now and again. I found the RT660s (and the Goodyear SC3 before them) to follow a similar pattern of peak>drop ~20%>plateau. They could be overheated, but it took over-driving or being ham-fisted. The RE71-RS needs more monitoring.
  • Inner shoulder and center-bar wear is something to keep an eye on. After 2 days they look ok, but showing a little more wear and beveling than I'd have expected.
