Smile More to Consider

A pizza box in the car (trunk/netted) is the worst thing I have done, as the pizza smell permeated the car's interior for longer than I could stand. It is no longer allowed in the car.

Fast Food------------------> McD's, KFC's, Pizza, etc.
Take Out Food-------------> Sushi, Outback, NOLA's, etc.
Fast Beverage -------------> See drinks from Fast Food + Starbuck's
Take Out Beverage---------> See drinks to go at Take Out Food

I think Covfefe is what makes most of us cringe, a spilled beverage that gums up the buttons.

Wow.

That was a really serious answer to my flippant response. I must confess I had not expected to get into an epistemological debate about the nature of fast vs take out food.

But since we are here....man. Well, it just leads to so many questions, doesn't it?

For instance, is the existence of a parking spot a necessary or sufficient condition of a take out food restaurant? What about in an urban area with limited parking? Other than fine dining establishments (an entire category unto itself), are there many casual restaurants that do NOT offer take out service? (and, indeed, can we not expect that if you pay enough even Jean Georges will deliver a takeout package for your butler to pick up?) Conversely, would any fast food restaurant (drive thru window or not) not also be a takeout? If I can 'dine in' or 'take it to go' is that not the essential nature of the takeout food experience? Is there any 'drive through or eat in only' restaurant anywhere? If the answers to those questions are as I expect, do we not then descend into absurdity when all restaurants are thus really take out? Put another way: if we were to draw the inevitable venn diagram of the restaurant universe, would not the 'take out' circle not be so large as to encompass all (or nearly all) the 'fast food' circle, all of the 'casual dining' circle and just leave outside of its wide reach a small circle for 'fine dining'?

See it all becomes quite a lot all at once. Too much, really, for a Tuesday morning. This is much more Thursday morning type banter.

I guess I really have two points here.

One, if you are taking food out of a restaurant (fast or otherwise) so often that you worry about its smell infecting your car, you eat out too much. Perhaps the existence of this thread is part of the answer to 'Murica's obesity epidemic.

Second, and this is key: covfefe.
Lmaoo. Thanks for this.

I wrap the food in a large freezer bag and seal it up. Then I hold the freezer bag upside down and shake it to make sure it's sealed. Then I put it in a bear vault, then I put that in a large yeti cooler.

I then have my wife drive our GSD over to where I'm at to make sure the dog's highly trained nose can't detect any little bit of food scent. Only then do I put the Yeti in the trunk.

I thought about getting a trailer for the Yeti but, that would be nuts... then I'd have the problem of there being a trailer hitch on my car which I just couldn't live with. I mean I just got done with all the therapy to cope with that time I actually farted in the car. OMG!

I put the food on my lap, use one hand to eat, one hand to shift, and yet another hand to talk with the cell phone to my ear.

Or I just put it in the trunk and secure it with the cargo net.

How has this generated 4 pages of comments? How hard is it to find a place to put a bag of food in the car? It's not that big!

I often spend 10 hrs in the car so I do eat and drink in the M3, so shoot me! But it's just a car.

You didn't expect an epistemological debate? I guess you're new

Anyway, the answer has been known since ancient times: it's the prevalence of edge cases. This graph of ancient wisdom was found etched on a clay pot carbon dated to the Cenozoic Era (translation is mine):

Front passenger footwell. Or back seat footwell. I have the all weather mats so any leakage can be rinsed. No concerns.

True dat. I wont eat while driving (for obvious safety reasons), but transporting food... sheesh.

My takeout order is always neatly put together by the restaurant. So all I have to worry about is it turning over when going around turns. To combat that, I just put the food behind my drivers seat and move the seat all the way back so the food is wedged between my seat and the rear seats. Never had a problem going that way. Or even placing it in the front seat when my back seat is full.

Lol at the "No food EVER in my car".

I don't believe one person who has had an M3 or almost any car that was/is a daily driver for a year or so and has NEVER had food in it. I respect your want to keep your car clean and away from potential things that could dirty it up. But I don't believe those of you who say you've never never had food in your car or imply that. I know some people eat take out. I'd love to see the person who would walk an hour to pick up food (when delivery is not an option) rather than taking a 15 minute trip with the M3 when it's the only car they have.

I daily drive but don't buy take-out food ever, so it's never been in my car. The only food I've ever carried is groceries which I do weekly.

Also coffee, but for that I have this race-inspired mug which saves weight for better performance. They don't make them in carbon fiber
