Yup and it's so much fun. Did a few track days this year with stock tires, last one was with the newer Michelin 4S which were very capable. Got myself some Apex EC7s paired with NT01s, looking forward to next year

Very interesting.....the poll is settling right at 50/50.
So here’s a question. Those of us that participate in this forum fall into the ‘enthusiast’ bucket and are therefore more likely to track I would think. Considering ALL the M3/M4’s that are sold, what percentage do you think see track duty? |

Watkins Glen is a brief 250 miles or so.

My E46 M3 is my dedicated track weapon. I will take the F80 to the track next season. Maybe a chill day or two. Call me crazy, but I think the E46 is more fun for that specific use. Not to mention, it is cheaper to walk away from a balled up E46 versus a balled up F80.

Turn 2 is over a blind up hill turn, going into turn 4 is also uphill, 6-7 are downhill off camber, the entire octopus is uphill, the front straight is downhill. Turn 2 alone should negate any "zero elevation change" comments

I've taken my 2016 M3 Non-ZCP to the track/used it in driver training courses. Mainly because I knew I was trading it in for the ZCP version. Performed flawless at PIR, including a couple wet & rainy track sessions. Overall, great vehicle on the track. Would consider lowering/reducing body roll and upgrading tires to something more track specific to get the most out of it.
I don't plan on taking my 2016 M3 ZCP to the track. It currently has just under 9000 miles on the odometer and garage kept. On that note, I voted yes. Here are a few photos.

Love COTA
I'm tracking my M4 for now.
I live in Austin, TX and drive a new 2018 M4. I took European Delivery, 1300 mi, In June and then received it at the Spartanburg Performance center and drove home in September. Awesome experience. I had tracked my old 2017 530i the year before (117,00 miles on it) and wanted to do the same with my new car. The opportunity came quickly in November at COTA. By then I had almost 7,000 milse on the car. An awesome experience to learn to drive fast and get to know all the settings in my car. It took me until the third day to get the right settings for getting around the track. I also noticed that when you have a quality car the experience is much better. But to my surprise I scrubbed a lot more rubber off my tires than the first time. I'll bet I used at least 25-40% of my tread wear in those 3 days running Michelin Super Sports. I would like to do this once or twice a year going forward, so I'm beginning to look at buying a dedicated set of wheels (squares) and track only tires for those days. Who has recommendations? Apex Wheels look to be popular, but what about tires? I've seen NT01s recommended but how do they compare with my existing Super Sports, mostly in cost. Finally, the one issue I have not researched is my new and extend vehicle warranty. Will tracking my car, HPDE events only with no actual racing, void my warranty? |

Only tracked once this year. Looking at insurance options right now. Regular insurance does not cover anything on track. You hit the wall, you are screwed. It is all in the fine print.

Lockton Motorsports will insure your car for certain sanctioned events. They will insure for events put on by BMWCCA and the Porsche Clubs, for example. That's a big reason I do events from those clubs. Covers your car and 5K of track damage. Maybe some towing too.
