Him: "What? Oh - is that the car? I wanted a 440 but they didn't have one in white".
Me: "Well, you have a better car now!"
Him: "The ride isn't a smooth as my old 335i - is that because it's an M?"
Me: "Look at the time - I have to go. Nice talking to you"

Just a wiener with too much money who doesn't even know what he's DRIVING let alone what an M in.
Some of the loaded 335’s can get up there in msrp.Maybe he was sold on the looks of M4 and didn’t even drive it.I know a lot of customers that order cars or even just buy them off the lot without driving them.Being that he was a happy bmw customer he might have just assumed that it was a higher powered and more aggressive styled version of what he had.

In some areas believe it or not they don’t have car enthusiasts selling at their dealerships .Its just average people in the sales business that really don’t even like cars.I have talked to a lot of the people who work in the dealerships and it’s hard to find a real car guy there.

Usually the person buying the M car knows every detail of the car and ends up educating the salesperson on the specs.

Kinda why I wish supercars and the ilk came exclusively in 6MT's. Yeah, lets not debate which is faster, DCT vs Manual, but I'd guarantee you they wouldn't know how to get into 1st gear, keeping it out of their hands!

Exactly and the upgrade to an M is trivial.

///M badges are readily available on ebay.
Yeah I just don't get people that slap an ///M badge on a regular 3/4 series....

Nobody will notice the different bumpers, No quad exhaust, no hood scoop, regular fenders, etc... haha

It's all relative...I have friends and coworkers who have some pretty nice boats. I go on those boats and afterwards other people want me to describe the boat.

I'm always like, iono it has four propellers...and there's a toilet down below

we all start somewhere.. why not let the guy know what a great car he has and perhaps educate him instead of brushing him off?

Do you have the Euro tail lights on your M? I think you parked behind my cousins silver M3 at target the other day.

That is definitely true. When I was shopping for my X5M the sales guy said it has an awesome DCT because the shifter is the same as the M cars (not SUVs).

Salesmen also have an average tenure of something like a few months at each dealership.

Maybe the guy actually bought and paid for a 440i but the salesman unknowingly brought around an M4

But was his M4 white?! That's the important question. It's a really hard color to find at dealerships.

No one is trolling you.

If you read the rules, taking a thread off topic is a no-no. Rather than let your comment take a dead and buried thread completely off topic, which was exactly would have happened, I created a new one for you.

Also, do me a favor and please watch the language too.

Have a good one.
