Should I buy an M4 that had a spun crank hub?

New member. Have had 2 M cars in the past. Thinking of getting another. Buddy is selling his 15 M4. Had the spun crank issue, fixed by BMW. What is your guys opinion on buying one that had that problem?

Man.. so many other things I would consider. Price, miles, condition, color, how it was driven, is your buddy OCD about cars etc. etc.

I would give great importance to how much you trust your friend as it relates to the care he has taken of the car. If I found buyers that I truly trust I would buy used more often, and happily pay a bit of a premium. But that's my biggest deterrent of buying used sports oriented cars.

How long ago was the repair? What was repaired?

I would want at least 3000 miles since the repair so that any issues have worked to the surface. Independent inspection with cylinder leak down or compression would be a sure way to know if the engine has any hidden issues.

IMO the market has plenty of non-repaired used cars to pick from for probably the same price.

Did they install any of the hub "fixes"?

Fixed with what? New S55?

If that's documented in the work order and you know the friend well and trust them, go for it.

So you would send all trade ins with fixed SCH, replaced engines or transmission to auction and never put them on your lot?

we look into the history of all trade ins yes, we have a lot of determining factors that we take into account when we decide to wholesale or keep on the lot. Im sure most dealerships do the same TBH

If you knew the repair was done correctly. But its about as much of a gamble as buying a different M that could suffer from a failure...

If everything else about the car is great, you can get all records, and as others have mentioned you know your buddy really took care of the car, then that's worth more in my mind than worrying about a mechanical repair that was fixed properly. You don't have the luxury of knowing how a car on a lot was driven or cared for, and frankly most people don't do anything more than drive the crap out of these and maintain them at minimum requirements.

It's not a new car anymore and if you plan on keeping it for a while then the repair won't matter. Any impact to resale years down the road will be minimal. Buy and enjoy!

Well I think I'm going to do it. 2015 16,000 miles. 44k. Car has tons of mods.( ALL top of the line ) Wheels, full suspension, Akro full Exhst, full clear wrap, aero parts and stage 2 tune w/ all needed parts. After the repair, car is back to stock ( tune ) Will put parts back on and tune when I figure out how to keep the hub from spinning again. LOL. It's Yaz Blue by the way. Wish Me Luck

I would not buy it without a leak down test. unless it has an extended warranty beyond the original 4 years/50k
