I was also wondering if you will you be able to use an Ipod Touch with the M Laptimer with the USB stick installed for the European maps? Is there a second USB you can use? (because I thought you can't remove the map USB stick at all otherwise it won't work afterwards.)

Yes you will need to leave the usb with the maps plugged in. It will ask for an FSC code if removed and re-inserted.
For music it's best to stream via Bluetooth since you already have the music on your iPod. Unfortunately you will not be able to use your lap timer app without plugging in the use cable. |

There's a post about adding USB to the glovebox by disconnecting the armrest adapter wiring. Then running a new cable to the glovebox along with a plug to get USB there. That is probably what I saw. Probably pretty much out of the question for ED.
Adding a glove box USB outlet I wonder if you could use a 2-port USB hub and have the European maps thumb drive plugged into that so you still have an open port. Has anyone tried something like this and does it work? Ableconn USB2HUB2B USB 2.0 2-Port Compact Hub

I highly doubt the OP is going to take apart his dash to install a 2nd usb cable while on ED. This assuming the car was even ordered with 6NS.
It becomes a moot point when back in North America and you don't need the usb map stick. Enjoy the ED trip, mash the gas listen to the sounds. Stop overthinking it. |

I thought you got all the answers you needed the last time you started a thread about USB ports on ED...
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1239879 To recap, there is ONE USB port in the F8x cars. When on ED, that port is used by the USB stick containing the European maps for the nav system. If you need those maps, you absolutely cannot remove that USB stick from the one and only port (not even temporarily; it can never come out). If you do not need the maps, you can use the USB port for anything else. |

I started a thread there and the realized this forum. so reposted, thinking this would be a better spot. people in both threads are giving different solutions which is great
unfortunately thread delete or merge is not a user ability

6NS is the enhanced Bluetooth option. What I'd like to know is if a splitter would work. Then you could have the welt plug the maps into the splitter and you would still have a port open without having to unplug the maps.
