The amount of torque you make after 5252 rpm is irrelevant. there's nothing gained by making a higher percentage of peak torque at redline.

I hope your right on the horsepower. Common M, lets see 450 HP / 400 lb-ft AND nearly an 8K rpm's!!

I'm still drooling on the new C7 Stingray...

I really don't like the hood on the 3 series 4 series form the front 1/4 view. It looks really high.

The bad: the big wheel gaps and ground clearance can signal EDC with a soft comfort mode that requires long springs and the sporty setting is all electric dampers stiffening which I personally don't think feel as natural and dynamic as stiff springs.

The good ( very good ). The gaps are large even on the outer side, away from the curb when cornering. That is one stiff suspension, whoa.

I hope we get the choice of a passive sports only suspension.

Considering that it seems like BMW is typically stating HP lower than it's in reality, don't be surprised that the next gen M3/M4 has 450HP...

I recently read an interview with someone from BMW that explained that their HP claims was given for a "worst case scenario" situation (like bad fuel, hot weather, high altitude, humidity etc).

BTW. Next years F1 engines will be 1.6l turbocharged engines with a lot higher rev limit than 8000rpm...

Nearly 8000rpm means, that engine is heavy modified N55, not badge tuning.

....Mclaren Mp4 3.8L tc V8 revs 8500rpm.

I'm still not convinced by this 420hp figure. I know the horsepower wars are ending but 420 would seem to almost put the M3/M4 downmarket unless there is a combination of weight loss on the order of 150-300lbs and extensive chassis tuning (differential, custom tires maybe?)

This is incorrect. Usually, the higher the percentage of peak torque is produced at redline, the higher the power output of an engine.

And power best indicates the capabilites of an engine .

I was under the impression the coupe and the sedan would be released at the same time?

are those dates confirmed or just estimates?

either way pretty exciting. I am really looking forward to seeing how they can improve over the e9x. The e9x is such an awesome car. I can't wait to see this unfold!

If that's true, I'm all for it, I guess they're trying to make up for loss in the capability of a high-reving V8..

But you are correct about the HP/TQ comment. That tq curve is going to have to be ^ instead of a nice flat curve. remember the e46 m3 only had 262 tq right up to around redline and it made 333 hp. for power to be 415 at redline, the tq will only be in the 300s.


if this is all TRUE - the car will be a real monster when tuned to hold boost to redline - we are talking 600hp.
