Yeah the M2 is an exceptional car. I've enjoyed it more than the Boxster/Caymans I've driven. Sure it's heavier and fundamentally not as balanced, but something about how they engineered it makes it a riot to drive. There's a lot of drama with that car even at low speeds.

Sigh
That weird shifter alone would drive me get the manual transmission in that car. I like having a gear lever even if it's an auto, I enjoy changing gears with a shifter rather than flappy paddles.

My choice: 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS Coupe with a manual transmission (PDK is fantastic too, but I will take manuals as long as they are offered).

The last normally aspirated motor before the Porsche 911 era with turbo engines that started on the 991.2 - outside of the GT cars.

I love my F80, but these Porsche 911’s are a cut above, for sure. Love the marque. BMW’s make sense up to a certain price point. When they get this expensive and heavy, my brain immediately starts thinking Porsche.

They paid all the “selected” YouTubers quite a bit probably to only do positive review and not focus on grill.

This cancel culture is scary where consumers can’t freely express their opinions. I understand ppl setting up new accounts and trolling should be banned but long time members and current BMW owners???
As many here - I not only purchased 6 new BMWs since 2009 including 2 F80 M3s but also paid for M events in SC and Thermal, M performance parts etc. If they want to block members that supported the brand for YEARS then there are plenty of other automakers that will take my $$$$$.
This. We have bought/leased many BMWs which includes 4 EDs, 1 PCD and Thermal M School not to mention the family members I helped purchase BMWs. Doesn't sit well at all.

I'm struggling to find a car I can accept from them after this F82. Not good.

Yup. I really wanted to like the G8x, but just find it disappointing on many levels. Bigger, heavier, pricier, don't like the looks. And for the love of all that's holy...the tach dial goes in the WRONG direction.

The launch of GrillosaurusG8x just means we're one step closer to human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together...mass hysteria!

I think you hit the nail on the head earlier in the thread regarding all these youtubers etc etc.... getting some kind of financial benefit or some other "payoff" from BMW to be "kind" to the new terrible design.

Wonder what Matt Watson is getting? He likes it in this reveal.

What are you planning for your next ride? Still an X3M? I'm kinda surprised being a Vert guy and all.

All the reviewers are absolutely getting a benefit*:

• At a minimum youtubers/publications/websites get access to press events, press cars for reviews, execs for interviews, early release docs, press-embargo events, etc.

• Beyond that are the sponsored press junkets, insider tours/info, early access to new prototypes, etc with reimbursed travel, fancy dinners, boondoggles, swag, private track access, various paid-for clubs and lifestyle stuff, demo cars, etc (e.g., why don't we fly you to Spain to review the new xx at Jerez?)

• Beyond that is paid promotional work (e.g., Nicki Shields), production work, BMW-as-a-client of any type work, partnerships, associations, affiliations, etc

• Beyond that is straight up advertising dollars, masthead arrangements, collaborations, etc

• Beyond that is charitable support, sponsorships, etc

Then the threats start ...

• That minor infringement thing BMW was overlooking is now a lawsuit

• Ceases & desist using anything BMW or BMW related in any way

• Legal harassment / frivolous lawsuits

• Blackballing you from any industry events and/or refusing to participate in shows/events you're a part of

• Insisting all their partners & suppliers blackball you too, e.g., Toyota, ZF, etc

And on and on ... even people with industry power like Harry Metcalfe are very measured in how they critique a brand, especially one that's nursing wounds.

So with the G8x the pressure has gone from "don't agitate us" to "you like this vehicle"

aka "Good BMW lease."

I am very proud I bought off my M3 with title on hand.

Now I just need to find out if I want to do CCBs or not...

All the above must be true. If you're a critic you'll get blacklisted from the brand. That can be the only reason why there is so much hate on the forums yet reviewers that were flown in to review the G8X all said the front end was ok.

Sad that so much forum experience has been relegated to this thread. You would think years of BMW ownership and helpful forum contributions would be worth more.

It seems the narrative is what it is and it's not enough to just sip the kool-aid, you have to drain the glass.

Yup, I was banned after two posts! I guess it's because I'm a man of action [IMG]
View post on imgur.com

Anyway, I would hope here we can be more open and honest with productive dissent of the G8x (mods please tell us if not) - at least I've posted way more don't-like-it posts elsewhere with no problems, but I more/less understand why: they don't want to crap up the G8x sub-forum with hater-posts and there's a lot of us with a lot of passion. That's fair, i just wish they'd make it more obvious there are no dissenters allowed there. I don't mind either because the forum was just aggravating me anyway so it's all cool.

But yeah, I'm really bummed about the G8x as I"ve been a huge M3 fan since the E30 and had every one except the E30 ... and now the G8x. I think BMW has really jumped the shark with the design, however there are people who legit like it so maybe it's one of those we're-all-old-now things or maybe just no longer have personality types in the target market. Why not make the M4 "bold" and M3 normal ... seems like they're taking a big risk doing both; I wish we all knew why... as in, what data is BMW seeing that's telling them this design will sell more than a "less bold" design? That would be a productive forum topic ...

Anyway, I really hope the LCI gets rid of the grille and other "boldness", but I highly doubt that'll happen ... though if it does, I'll get one immediately just out of principle.
I'm with you and like you have had at least one of every M3/M4 except the E30 and now the G8x. I was planning to get a G8x and then started shopping other brands when the spy photos hit the forum. When BMW starts losing long-term repeat buyers like us, you know they are doing something wrong.

Does anyone think the new M440i looks better than the M4? I mean, both look ill but aesthetically the 440 looks a bit more polished to me without all that ricer body add on crap.

Look, people will put their money where there mouth is.
I think the first year sales numbers will be less than the F8X.
They'll blame COVID but we'll all know it's that damn face! (And 300-500lbs heavier, no DCT, etc)
