If I get an aftermarket windshield, would my HUD, rain sensors and sensor near the rear view mirror all work the same?

Glass insurance will cover OEM glass. I've replaced mine non HUD with OEM one as well. I told Satellite I wanted the original, they pre-approved with insurance, ordered from a dealer and replaced in my driveway. Perfect job.

Don't do it at the dealer though. Dealer charges something like $1300 for glass replacement. Satellite would charge glass cost + small replacement fee. Dealer SA told me not to do it with them.

Doesn't necessarily have to be dealership... I've replaced quite a few different bmw windshields and all with HUD... Just make sure it's OEM glass... We have shit glass that's for sure...

Honestly, sounds like if I ever have any windshield cracks I will be making a drive to Philly! Very hard to find any shop that does stuff like that.

My goodness. This is really good to know, thanks for all the info.

Almost worth a trip to Philly if I need a windshield repaired. Stunningly professional work they performed

So far this thread has advised for and against OEM.

What/Who is OEM and what/who is not OEM?
I know Safelite is aftermarket.

Thanks

Safelite can install either OEM or aftermarket. When my OEM windshield picked up a rock this summer, I had Safelite install another OEM. Happy so far.

Thanks for the response. Did they do it indoors or outdoors? Cool weather or hot? Does it matter?

When my windshield cracked I had contacted Safelite and per them there was no aftermarket option at the time. OEM was the only windshield available especially with the HUD. I didn't use Safelite and instead used another glass shop that I was extremely happy with. Both had indoor facilities to perform the work. You must be thinking about the mobile ones that come and perform the work in your driveway. Personally I would always get the work done indoors. Much cleaner and temperature controlled environment. Besides the glue needs a few hours to cure.

Yeah I'm blown away by all the assumptions here.
I've heard from many people, even people at glass repair shops, that claims for windshields don't increase your rates. I have a chip as well, and I asked my insurance to send me all the fine print, and after I go through that, I'm going to ask them whether it affects my rate or not. Everyone's assumptions that EVERY insurance company will behave the same and that is to raise your rates is unfounded.

Now on the other hand, my windshield, with installation, is going to cost the insurance company $1500 per BMW, so hard to imagine they just let people make an enormous claim like that and not make you pay for it in some way... but I'm not going to ass-ume the answer.... just going to ask them when I get around to it, then pay and see what happens. BTW, my deductible is only $250... which costs me $100 more per year than a $500 deductible... so if they don't raise my rate, that's a hell of a deal for me, lol.

Wow... I wouldn't be so shocked if you had mentioned some other companies, but that's mind numbing amazing for those two insurance companies.
State Farm is famous for only catering to an elderly clientele, and for dropping people after a single claim. So congrats on your success.

I didn't realize they had such a bad rap. Between an accident, two stolen cars and a stolen bike, they've been nothing but professional and a pleasure to deal with.

I can confirm my rate hasn't been increased.

By the way, I got an estimate from BMW as well close to $1750 or something and the insurance was never going to cover that. They would have negotiated it with the dealer down to $1000-$1200 which is what a specialty glass shop charges in my area. Or they would have just cut me a check for what is reasonable. Dealers charge some insane amounts and that's because most people pay them those insane amounts

Florida insurance regulations requires insurers to provide zero deductible glass coverage with all full coverage policies. Had a "come to me" provider slash my NSX pillar with his blade and unfortunately I didn't realize it until after he had left. Totally my fault and it will never happen again I assure you.

My GT3/GT4 track friends just wrap their entire cars, windshield included immediately upon delivery. I scoffed at the mention of it when I brought my new f80 around but now wish I had done the windshield at the very minimum. The front clip I can respray but I am picky where perfect optics are concerned, especially when driving near the edge. Even having my windows rolled up takes away an entire sensory category from me, which I also use extensively when driving close to the limits of the car.

If you file an insurance claim for replacing the glass due to a rock hitting it and causing a crack will this be reported on carfax or something else that would hinder selling the car later?

Glass damage is usually not reported unless you're in an accident and you needed to replace your glass. It should be a part of your comprehensive coverage.

Some Companies Factor Glass Replacement for Policy Pricing

I called my insurance carrier (State Farm) on this topic this morning, 06 Aug 2018. I was assured that glass replacement is factored into our loss history for risk and pricing purposes. That doesn't contradict the quoted comment--it just means different companies will rate it differently.

Didn't affect my insurance. I had Geico at the time.
