Agreed that SONAX and a power washer is the easiest way I've found so far. I do plan on coating them at some point too, I just haven't had a good enough reason to pull them off the car so I can coat the inside of the wheels.

I use p21s wheel cleaner and the soft sponges you can buy at any grocery/home store to get into the smaller spaces. They conform very well and fit in the tight space between the caliper and barrel. The kind without an abrasive side, of course. The p21s comes with a nice sponge for the face of the wheel, but I have been using the cheap kitchen sponges for years. Worked great on my past style 68 and 135

I just did this, the Gyeon product is phenomenal. I found that the Kamikaze Stance Rim Coat went on very easily, more than enough for two coats. it goes on so easily that you need to be careful, you can use too much. I have the 666 Black wheel and I don't like it at all. That's just a personal preference, most love their 666 Black. I am going to get mine sandblasted to remove the black paint and then clear coat powdercoated.

I have a 5 y/o that always wants to help detail, but I never want to let her touch the paint. Now that I have the 666's on my F80, I give her a microfiber cloth after the wash and the wheels keep her busy while I do the rest of the car.

These wheels are very intricate so if you want to clean them properly it will take time. It usually takes me an hour to clean all 4 wheels. If you have the black ones it will take a little longer since black shows everything. I made a video showing my wheel cleaning process on my friends M3. Hope this helps!

How much time you want to spend cleaning is definitely a personal preference. I have found that the cleaner I get the wheels the longer they stay clean. I also spray them with a detail spray which helps. I could probably dramatically cut my wheel cleaning time if I coat them with something like Gyeon Rim which I'm thinking about trying.

Every single set of comp wheels that come in gets coated with modesta bc06. It doesn't get any easier to clean them than after coating.
You are right, 1 hour is about the average it would take us to clean them without coating, but after coating, about 15 minutes. we find the a wheel woolie, a MF towel and a 1" brush are the best uses for these wheels. These items can be found at Detailed image, which is where we get all our own supplies. |

What is the 15 minute cleaning process for the wheels? It would be great to get the time down to that.
My wheels are ceramic coated and it takes me just under an hour to do a full clean (face, spokes, inner lip, barrels, and calipers). An in-between wash is a lot quicker since all I do is spray with wheel cleaner and then rinse with pressure washer. That's about a 15 minute ordeal (most of the time is waiting for the wheel cleaner to change color). Takes more time than washing the damn car. |

I washed My car for the 1st time today and what a pita to clean the wheel, took me 1 1/2 hrs to clean all of them to my satisfaction but the largest wheel woolie was completely useless, I used the other 2 to clean the wheels, once cleaned looks sparkless. Next time Wil use sonax and will not spend so much time on them. Couldn't get to wax the car as the whole process tool 3 hrs and was completely exhausted

I just applied Kamikaze Rim Coat to mine....have yet to drive the car enough to get the rims dirty and wash them.
