Kirkland(Costco) Oil

Does anyone have an opinion on using Kirkland Signature 0W-20 or 0W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil from Costco? I have a 2016 F80 M3 with 32k miles. Thank you

Do they have the necessary certification? Last I check they didn't. Not to say you cannot, but is the price difference that much to warrant it?

If you can find out who packages it for them. Im sure its likely a major brand. I am generally a fan of costco branded things, but this is not something I would consider for anything other than a rental corolla. Until/unless there is data/certs/blah that say its good to go. Amazon also has there "basics" brand of engine oil. Pass.

It carries the Dexos certificaiton which is like a GM Certification. BMW M needs LL-01.

They don't make a 0W30 unfortunately only a 5W30 and the aforementioned 0W20. The 5W30 is rated API SN PLUS, SN, SL and ILSAC GF-5 and GF-4. The SN plus is as good as it gets today but as stated previously it is not listed as BMW long life or "LL-01". Unless you are one of those people relying on BMW's absurd service interval of 15K miles then the LL rating does nothing for you. If you are changing your oil every 5-7.5K miles then this oil will do just fine. Just my 2 cents.

There are numerous inexpensive, readily available, and proven oils like Castrol, Pennzoil, and M1 0w40. My advice would be to use one of those instead of the Costco brand.

Warren distribution makes the oil for Costco. They also make the same oil for Amazon and Walmart. Personally would not run them in my m3.

What is the point of running this oil in an M3...to save $50?

If you're looking for inexpensive oil that will work well, just go with Castrol: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JGQLZSU/
