$5200 for San Marino Blue F80?!?!

Ordered my F80 and came back with a price tag of $5200 for the paint! Does this sound correct? San Marino Blue is a standard color on the M6 and on the UK website for the F82 is only 900 euros (no option for M3). Does not make sense to me. Also I wanted Full Black Merino leather with just the seats Silverstone and they said it may take an additional 12 weeks. What is BMW trying to pull here?!

I'm confused as to what is bothering you...

Individual paint is $5000.... you chose a color that isn't standard or part of their semi-individual line. What did you expect?

Welcome. I tried submitting a Individual San Marino Blue paint request and was recently denied.. I was basically begging BMW to take my money. Lucky for you, you might have a shot lol

What's bothering me is why is it an individual paint on an M4 but it's 80% cheaper on an M4 instead of an M3???

You are quite confused. BMW Individual is a specialty program offering an extremely wide variety of customization options for both the interior and exterior. I am unaware of a price difference between F80 vs F82; should be none.

There are two types of Individual. The first is what you see on the online BMW order configurator. It has just a handful of exterior colors. Those cost around $2K and do not delay the production of the car. There is also a similar Individual category for interior colors with the same small list of color options and lack of impact on production schedule.

Then there's Individual Manufaktur, the REAL Individual. It has dozens upon dozens of exterior colors, thread colors for interior stitching and a labyrinth of configuration options. San Marino Blue is one of those options, hence why it costs a pretty penny. The fact that it doesn't for M6 is because BMW to offer it as a base color instead. Has nothing to do with the M3 or M4. You didn't realize that, but of course your dealer did.

Individual Manufaktur does delay production significantly, IF BMW even approves your color, which they do only if there are enough orders for it at the specific production line so they can grouped together for the body shop. Same with the interior. It also costs ~$5K for the exterior on the F8X.

Here is a small primer on Manufaktur EXTERIOR colors: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1224650

The M4 is produced in a different plant (Munich) than the M3 (Regensburg). I wonder if the paint shop on the M4 line might be setup to paint San Marino Blue right now but the M3 line isn’t.

Why do you think that BMWNA is the same as BMWUK?

I'm not saying they are the same. I'm asking for clarification. I was sent to this link to be able to "visualize" the M3 in different color options. https://www.bmw.co.uk/discover-bmw/b...ual-visualiser

On that site under San Marino Blue the M3 is not an option. All other similar vehicles are way cheaper than the $5200 I was quoted. I'm just trying to get educated and make sure I'm not getting ripped off.

You're not getting ripped off, and yes you could be looking at an additional 12 weeks for an individual car.

^ Exactly

As others have said, if you go to the BMWUSA site:

(1.) You will see 7 standard colors to choose from, 1 non-metallic color (AW) for no additional charge and 6 metallic colors for $550

(2.) You will see 4 "Individual Collection" colors to choose from, each costing $1950.

(3.) There are no other colors you may choose from ... unless you want to special order a color from what is called "Individual Manufaktur"

If you want to special order a color, you may pick from the list posted in sticky ordering threads or try to have them create it. Then you tell BMWNA your request and they approve or deny it. If approved, at a minimum it will cost $5200 ... it may cost more if they need to do research or create it for you.

In your case you asked for color familiar to them (but they are currently denying for most customers - you snuck in!) and so you've been charged the minimum charge: $5200.

Ok well thats awesome that I got snuck in for that color! I havent seen it in person but in all the pics I've seen the color looks gorgeous on the M3. Why do you think it is that others recently got denied but mine got approved? Just timing?

Yup, timing. They're doing something with other cars with that color, I can't remember what, but this happens where they allow it for awhile then decide to use it as a standard option on a special car and stop allowing it for individual.

SMB is about the best color out there and easily worth the money as long as you're getting comp pack with black satans.
