It can be done through coding. I currently have my 2016 M4 set up to allow locking the car while still running (opening the door automatically puts the DCT into neutral).

There's no coding needed for that. I could also lock my car while the engine was running. What I could not do is lock the car with the engine shut off and the DCT in neutral.

For information I wanted to let you know what the new TIS says about the handbrake. For those who say that the handbrake must lock in 5 clicks.
