Cold Start Noise - F80

Not exactly able to pinpoint this , it's only upon cold start 30-40 degrees or below with some moisture in the air. I have done some searching and members come up with different issues it seems.

Any feedback would be appreciated

I saw the vid. Does the squeak frequency match the alternator pulley or the idler pulley?Whichever matches up that's your likely culprit. If it's the idler bearing then it could be greased. If it's the alternator then think about a new one. What sucks is both take about the same work effort.

Is the belt "banjo string" tight? If not then I'd replace the tensioner too.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate your advice , as I know your a very active and knowledge member on the forum . The car only has 38k on it . I'm leaning towards maybe just the belt :

Since it's a serpentine belt if there was a glazed or slippery spot it wouldn't be so rhythmic like yours sounds. Keep an eye and ear on it. If you're not tuned then it's a dealer fix.

I took to dealer could not replicate the sound of course videos weren't enough for them. And as it is starting to warm up here in NJ it's not happening as much at all. I will check the serp belt and see if it's banjo string right light you said. If it's not then the dealer should of been able to identify that while the car was in their possession (one would think)

I brought it to the dealer… could not replicate issue of course , they said they replaced the belt but at the same time said they couldn’t replace anything if it wasn’t the problem

To this day I still have the issue and it is random sometimes is raining out sometimes it’s not but always around 30 degrees also like you said.

I’m glad I’m not the only one

Anytime! I picked up the car with 36k and around 38k it started to happen with mine , if anything I think it could be the idler pulley.

This is a pully issue.

My 2018 car had this exact problem at 38k miles. Dealer could not replicate, I told them to document and keep the car overnight for cold start. They found the issue and repaired under warranty.

The dealer replaced the entire serpentine belt section idler pulley etc as well. The noise has not returned. I believe it’s a bearing that goes in the idler pulley.
