Water Wetter

Is anyone else considering adding some water wetter to the inter-cooler? I always put some in the radiator.

Why water wetter

Water wetter makes the transfer of heat to/from the water to the air more efficient. It should lower the temperature of the water in the system by allowing the radiator to get rid of more heat (lower water temp) and also in the inter-cooler allow more heat from the compressed air from the turbos to be absorbed by the water thus lowering the compressed air temperature more.

Basically better heat flow in the system.

And of course lower air intake temperatures can lead to more Horse Power

I've put in both water wetter and the motul equivalent, and helps lower coolant temps by ~2 degrees on my e90 ( i have the electric steering wheel so I can gauge the before/after). At track temps probably a little more.

This doesn't hurt the car in any way?

Hasn't hurt my vehicle, had a recent coolant flush and all was good (no oil in coolant, etc). I tried the Motul one this time after the flush and pretty similar in effect. Also the guys who race at Bimmerworld use it in their cars, and they rebuild engines all the time. Was on their recommendation that I put it in my car actually.

I used Water Wetter in my E46 M3 and didn't have to replace my water pump till 150,000 miles. I think the extra lubricants helped prolong the bearing in the pump and provide better heat dissipation.

The inter-cooler has a little tank on it that allows removal and addition of fluid. Just remove some I'm guessing anti-freeze and pour in the same amount of Water Wetter. I would look up the fluid capacity of the inter-cooler so that the right amount os WW can be added.

I must say after running full days at German tracks the stock intercooler was never hot to the touch and actually quite cool ALWAYS. Everyone on ED had the same experience. My thought is that unless you are using this car hard at the track on a regular basis they would be no need to do this

Probably true, but Water Wetter (or any variety of other deriviatives, Royal Purple has one called Super Coo, IIRC), is pretty inexpensive, and worth it.

It couldn't hurt and anything to help get rid of the heat (especially when it is 100+) can make things better.
