Is this a problem in all M3/M4's? (Seat Wearing out)

So I have been doing a lot of research on the M4. I have been planning on buying one at the end of the month, so I have been spending all my free time reading everything I can about them. Today while I was scrolling threw I saw some pics of someone's SO interior and with only 4000 miles on the car and his seat was already worn out. Much to my surprise there were many comments of people saying that they are having the same problem.

Has this happened to anyone else on here?

WTF!? Have no idea what this person would be doing to get that kind of wear even after 100K miles. My SS leather seats on my F80 look like new, as they should, with 5K miles on the odometer.

Do you wear anything with metal rivets or anything that could have done that? I wouldn't expect typical jeans, shorts, or slacks to do that. That's pretty bad.

That is not my car, I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else. I was reading about this today on FB and there was about 10 people who commented on this photo saying that it happened to them too. All of them had the SO interior.

Did all of the other people happen to also have teething Jack Russell terriers?

No way that is a major outlier. Dude must rock some of those True Religions with the huge blingy buttons and sit down way too early as he slides in.

It's a bucket seat so just be careful, Sit onto it and slide your legs over don't just SLIDE right in like you would on a bench. . . Its leather, and its durable, but it will fade and crack if you get in and out like a hippopotamus and wear jeans with buttons on the back pockets etc.

Most of the comments were people saying that they had a similar problem. 2 of them had it covered by the dealer. Most of the comments people say that they have not done anything other than drive the car. Some said they wear jeans but not with rivets on them or anything like that. They said its like the color is coming off where the seat creases.

That picture also shows that whoever the owner has never once treated/conditioned their leather. . . Its all dry and cracking looking. Love the stuff and it will love you.

My silverstone leather is doing that slightly, on both the driver and passenger side, but just on the upper portion of the bolster. I'm extremely OCD and careful with the leather, have a small frame, and rotate myself as I get into the car so as to not rub against the bolster. And it's still doing it. It's just a few specs on the piping portion only. It's unfortunate that it's so fragile. I first started noticing it around 2500 miles.

That's what it looked like to me also. But I figured it would be worth the time to ask if this has happened to anyone else on here.

Im planning on buying at the end of the month and if this is common then I will pick a different interior color.

Steve Sutcliffe test car leather maybe?

Seriously though no, it will take some bad misuse to make the seat that worn after 4000k. I'm on my 7th BMW currently pretty much all leather recently and taken some to 90,000 with very tidy looking seats.

Even IF mine did look like that at anything under 30,000 I'd asking for a replacement from the dealer under warranty.

I posted on there! Mines isn't anywhere bad as that, I do see similar lines forming though and I take care of my seats. I even have my memory seat function set at #1 for driving position and #2 will slide my seat back all the way so I can get out without rubbing on the side bolster or steering wheel.

That's what I figured, I have leather in my Z4 and it looks new, but I only have 1900 miles on the car. I didn't know if they use a softer leather in the
M4 or something. It was just odd that so many said they had the same thing happen to them. The only reason why I asked on here is because I plan on getting the SO interior. I don't want to make the wrong choice.

The Leather is softer in the F80/82 as its higher quality than standard car Dakota leather. If anything thought the higher quality should make it more durable etc. I'm also in for SO and picking up tomorrow.

Honestly go with the gorgeous SO interior FULL if you can stretch to that option, it looks and feel incredible and with just a little care will look great year after year

Thanks, I still plan on getting the SO. It just worries me that a car this expensive and the seats wear that easily. I also plan on getting the full leather as long as I can find one on a dealers lot. I don't want to go threw the waiting of doing a order.

I'd like to see/know the weight of this owner. That is more telling than anything else IMO.

That is good thinking, although there were a few other people that had this problem on the post that I was reading.

This crease line developed after sitting on it for 50 miles. I have a feeling it's not going to last long before more serious wear starts happening.

Is it just the SO interior that has this issue? or is it all of them?

I have over 7000 miles on my F80 and no wear whatsoever - OP - there must be something on your clothing causing this. Even my E93 with over 80000 miles had drivers' seat leather in much better condition than this...
