I previously had opticoat 2.0 on my '13 black sapphire metallic 328i. This was applied by a high end detailed for approx $900 (included paint correction and detail). It lasted 3 years with an occasional claying to remove industrial contaminants.

Now that I have an AW M3, I'm going to apply opticoat pro on. Luckily this time I got this at whole sale pricing ($160) and will apply it myself. I just got my full front PPF installed so will apply this after some paint correction.

While this product is great, many detailers also live by Cquartz and kamikaze coating. Just pick what works for your budget and you'll be fine.

I really like metropolitan detail in Bellevue. They are high end enthusiasts and stand by their work.

Is there a difference between Opticoat and CQUK, the latter is significantly cheaper.

I'm wondering the same thing, though the quotes I got were flipped.

OCP - $1350 and CQF - $1550

I get that includes new car prep, but both seem a bit high.

CQUK is the DIY coating. CQ Finest is the professionally applied one.

From what I hear, CQUK is glossier but doesn't last as long as OC. OC pro isn't as glossy, but is proven to last years. Depends on what your intentions are, but you can't go wrong with either coating.

Hm okay, yeah my CQUK is really glossy. My detailer told me it can last up to 2 years but I think realistically only 1. I'm probably not going to get it coated again, can't justify the cost for something I barely notice.

Realistically, how much better is OPC/CQ compared to applying a good sealant every few months? I was initially drawn to these as I thought they were all one-time coatings that last 'forever' but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I may just save the money and get some DPs instead.

With these coatings, you can go years without polishing and sealing your car. If you don't want to detail every other month, that investment is well worth your time, unless you have a lot of time and don't mind spending hours detailing...

Are they making good money off of it? Yes, yes they are. But they do a very nice job too and the results are always in the prep.

That same detailer offers and pushes more for film protection and they offer a dust-free, climate controlled room to ensure the paint does not wide up having any preventable flaws trapped under the film. Again, they charge more for it, but they are perfectionists and I get it.

I'm not a perfectionist though
what shop that may be? can you tell pls.

You guys should be careful still with just coating. Under unique occasions bird etchings can still happen.

I literally just had it happen today on my M4 w/ Opti Gloss Coating. I'm trying to figure out how to fix/remove it.
