Guys, did you ever get this figured out? I may be able to help if you have not. I have a 2017 F80 (Nov 2016 build date). In iDrive, I have my car set to show top-down cameras and the setting remains each time I go into reverse.

I have all of my CAFD files downloaded to my PC, but up until recently I was having some problems using E-sys on my PC to verify/see the files - problem fixed now. Let me know the specific CAFD file you need and I can send it to you to help with this.

This would annoy the crap out of me since I always use the top-down cameras now and find them more useful that the standard backup camera.

Did you guys have a chance to look at this at all?
Just got my car back from the dealer and they wiped my car back to factory, so I have to go recode all my settings again, figured I'd check in.
Thanks for the help!

That is interesting (and unfortunate) as I suspect the only difference between the '17s (my car, which has the feature in question) and the '18s is just a software setting somewhere. BMW must have really buried it. Makes me wonder if it was done intentionally, or just the unintended byproduct of software engineering...

I took another look at files.

I am curious about last FDL in TRSVC (CAFD_00000223) in section 3005 (UNBELEGT) and if setting FF will preserve preference.

The manual says to go through iDrive I believe or are you saying the checkbox isn't sticking (i.e. bug in the software)?

He is not talking about a "bug" in the software and this is not a user configurable option. He is talking about trying to find out where BMW may have made a parameter change in the iDrive software which prevents MY18 cars from defaulting to the top down camera mode which MY17 and older cars have the ability to do.

NHTSA ruled that all car made in 2018 and on must have a backup camera. Because this is a government mandated rule, I don't think you'll be able to override this setting just through the user interface of the iDrive.

Maybe it can be done by coding, because it is a US only requirement, and the car in some other countries do not require to have this default.

I fail to see how defaulting to RVC is mandated.

I would not think "defaulting" to this mode is technically mandatory by this new law. But I can speculate that defaulting to this mode is just how BMW decided to implement this requirement to ensure compliance. A bit overkill IMHO, but I can see why an OEM would want to be conservative with something like this.

Germans tend to take the most conservative approach to complying with laws. Take a look at the business continuity laws in Germany. It requires a quick recovery business data continuity plan but the companies take to mean that it needs to be an instantaneous failover to the backup plan. Way overkill but there's no question it meets the letter and spirit of the law.

I don't have the current daten files to try this change. Does anyone with an '18 have the ability to test this?

So test potential solution.

Why can you not toggle?

Just check EU files and value is set to FF.
