After few weeks of tractor-like idle, a few codes finally showed up.
Hello,
After a few weeks of extremely rough idle, the car finally threw codes. Not sure why there was a delay. The car is on Shell 93 with no aftermarket intakes- in relation to googling air mass too low. It almost sounds as if only one side of the motor is firing for every 3-4x times the other side does. Imagine the most extreme Corvette cam, even more. The car on occasion has some white smoke from the tailpipes but I believe has to do more with external temperatures. I clear codes but they still come back. I have no reliable BMW tech around me now in my new city so I'm trying to find the problem and see if I can fix it myself or find a mechanic that comes to the same consensus. Thank you all. Here are the codes pulled from bootmod3: 102902 Air mass 2, plausibility: air mass too low 102E11 No description available 102002 Air mass too low 118001 mixture control: mixture too lean 118101 mixture control 2: mixture too lean 119304 rail pressure sensor, plausibility: pressure too high before engine start 102A32 air mass meter, workspace: air mass too low After clearing, they all returned fairly quickly. |

Check that all of the connections of the small black air tube are well secured. This air tube runs from the J-pipe up to the front long intake pipe. It's a very common spot to find a leak causing "plausibility" codes.

Are you tuned and reluctant to take it to a dealership?
My M2 & M4 are both tuned and get serviced at a local dealer so no shame there.

Sometimes oiled aftermarket filters or dirty filtration slowly foul the sensor, use a MAF spray cleaner from auto part store and see if that works. I had to do this on my daily commuter Lexus IS and its been running great since. I had a CEL and three of the OBD codes you show, fuel lean mixture since affected STFT and LTFT and Air mass flow sensor low. Good luck.

Yes. The car has a built motor and upgraded turbos. Unfortunately the dealer most likely wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I'm roughly 7 hours away now from the original shop that put everything together and the closest some what reputable shop is 3hrs away which is sketchy when the car stutters. I feel that I can trust it for the trip but I am not sure.
