M4 vs 718 Boxster GTS
I've been thinking about getting rid of my M4 for a 718 Boxster GTS as my daily driver. I've used the backseats in my M4 maybe 2 times since I've gotten it. The only thing I'm worried about is scrapping on steep driveways and speed bumps with the lowered sport suspension and my occasional Costco runs. Has anyone else made a similar move? Thoughts?
Also, it seems that either Porsche lease deals suck or people just throw money at Porsche dealers. They quoted me $1700/month for a $95k Boxster GTS. I can finance it for that much a month. If anyone has any Porsche sales person hook up, let me know. I've gotten used to getting easy deals from people like Greg Poland from Pacific BMW. |

I daily drove an e89 z435 for 3 years. It was fine. Costco runs and all.
For $95k I'd go with a used gt4, especially if it's $1.7k/mo lease You could also get a 911 "touring" for a bit more. That's a pretty interesting car as well. |

Agree, for $95K, get into a used GT4.

Leases on Porsches suck. MF too high, residuals too low. Buy used CPO, that's the best move. I have a 911 with SPASM, the front lip hits sometimes, but it's a cheap plastic piece that just pops in, $185 for my car, didn't see the part listed on Suncoast's website for the 718 GTS though.

Agreed. Just waiting for three years into the 911 Carrera T production to hit the used market myself.

Don't think it's Porsche's leasing is so bad, but rather BMW's leasing is fairly aggressive. It's their way of creating churn and selling lots of new vehicles. Porsche tends to feel they are doing you a favor selling or leasing you a new Porsche. But then again I think most would agree a Porsche is a bit more special. It's also why they tend to hold their values much better over time than BMW's. Just my observation.

Unless it is Macan or Cayenne or Panamera base models, lease will give you some outrageous numbers for what the MSRP is.
Also only above models do really get some discounts, most 'sports cars' that they sell do really sell around MSRP AND ordered by the customer. Dealer specced cars, if the dealer sucks at speccing the car will stay on their lot longer and will get some discounts. Like someone mentioned, used CPO would be the best move with additional warranty and whatnot. |

It's a known fact that Porsche's with 2 doors don't lease well. As others have stated find yourself a GT4 and don't look back...….Phil

OP, I'm literally in the same boat. I'm about to dump my 2016 M3 after a year of ownership to get into either a Cayman S + Mini Cooper Convertible or a Cayman GT4. I like my F80 but really don't love it or particularly enjoy driving like I did my E92 M3. It's a "boring" fast car.
I actually am looking for a 2014 or 2015 model Cayman since I love the howl of the flat 6 and am willing to give up speed for the sound (as compared to a 718). I also loved the fact that the Cayman S made you feel like a super hero on a windy road, but it's not flashy or ostentatious enough to care where I park it. Also with the Cayman S, I am perfectly content to leave it bone stock- whereas I've spent thousands on mods for my F80 and am not happy with it. Why the Mini Cooper? I had a base 2018 Cooper convertible as a rental a couple of weeks ago and fell in love. It's fantastic to drive and a perfect fun car that my wife and I can both enjoy, and it's cheap. BMW did a great job with it. I did test drive a GT4 and while it was AWESOME...I can't say I really enjoyed it enough to spend literally $50K more on it than a Cayman S. If I find the right deal, I'd definitely jump on a GT4, but haven't come across one yet that would make me pull the trigger. Plus I can get both the Cayman S + Mini for less than the cost of the GT4. |

I had a '12 Cayman S I ordered custom and kept for 6 years, I loved that car, the engine sound at high RPMs is intoxicating and it was so fun to drive. It was getting along in age, so I traded for a '13 Carrera S almost two years ago, even better.

I'm not really interested in the GT4 since I feel it's more of a track car than daily driver. I believe it only comes in manual and I'd want PDK. Also, I prefer the Boxster over Cayman. I've been looking at CPO and used Porsches but I'm picky about options and colors and I haven't been able to find anything close to what I want. The one thing I don't like about Porsches are their options list are crazy long and the only way to get exactly what you want is to do a custom order! |

Porsche leases in general are terrible from everything I have ever been quoted. I have heard of people getting good deals on base caymans and boxsters 5k miles /year.

I'll take a Miata all day every day over a fwd car (except maybe civic r). Especially one that someone already fitted with full coilovers and wider tires Unless you really want the p-car badge that's all the fun you need in the canyons and it will lower your track budget significantly. Take it from someone whose modded 911 lives mostly on a trickle charger. |

My wife can't drive a stick and has no interest in doing so the DCT in the Cooper is a perfect tradoff. The mini cooper convertible also has a back seat which the miata doesn't...we don't care about the people hauling, but definitely adds more storage for Costco/shopping and weekend trips. I don't care about modding this car one bit. Most days we just want to cruise around doing our errands and living life in relative comfort, but with the top down and sun on our heads. On weekends, when I'm alone, the Porsche Cayman would be perfect to take in the mountain roads and wind out. |

In isolation, with no one around the cayman will be great. Just go into it being ok not being able to shake a lightly modded Miata and having the doors blown off the car by the cheaper crop of american cars... I think my biases against cars I decided not to purchase are coming through... |

If you drive 100 turns on your commute through the mountains the Cayman would be fun, if you don't, need to understand where the Cayman fits for daily DD "fun".
