How much experience do you need for M School

Hi all,
Thinking about doing a one day M school for my 30th birthday, however I've never driven on a track before. Is it beginner friendly, or is there work I should do before booking?

Completely beginner friendly. Last month I attended Spartanburg and the group of 18 that day had all levels of experience. From what I could tell, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Some guys got tired and choose to sit laps out, but they make that easy to do. You're never outside your comfort zone if you don't want to be. Highly recommended.

keep in mind, this is a controlled event so you'll have MDM at the very least. they'll teach you technique before getting on the big track, as this is stage 1 of the M school. the advanced 2 day school is a bit more intense, but still not like an open track day.

just did the 2 day advanced M at thermal club...that was cool as hell. got to rip on m2c, m3,m4, and m5- 4wd sport, no rwd allowed

Monday was half day racing, mostly classroom, and technique training
Tuesday was full track day with car/track rotation...midway thru the day, I was beat up.

2 days later, my whole body is still sore..

but heading to limerock tomorrow morning!

Nice. I am doing the Advanced M School in November. Can't wait! Did you bring your helmet? or do they provide one? I'm driving there so I've got no problem tossing it in the car with me.

m dynamic mode. allows slight wheel slip before traction kicks in and cuts power.

press the off button by the shifter to activate MDM.
press off for 5 seconds to activate fun.

Keep in mind that you will follow their instructions and use the settings that they have preset. You can't just pick and choose your own settings. In particular, you are absolutely forbidden to turn DSC completely off, except for the skid pad. They want you to bring that rear end around (and then try and control it)!

Got one of those myself last time around during a 1-day at Thermal! My wife came in 2nd, only 0.10 second behind me!

And yes, helmets are no longer used at M Schools. In particular, they no longer give you an M School helmet for the 2-day. Been like that since 2016 when my wife and I did the 2-day at Spartanburg, maybe longer.

Nice to know they got the M2C's in finally! I'll be going back again this year for my 3rd M School.

I gotta say, I am a little surprised that they don't use helmets for the Advanced M School. You guys sure about that? I'm talking the Advanced School, not the regular 2 day M school.

Yup. Both the 2 day M School and Advanced have track time at Thermal, and both don't require helmets.

Well, i guess that is a kinda good thing, selfishly speaking. I can't seem to find a decent seating position in my CS with my helmet on. The headrest pushes my helmet to far forward and the only way to correct that is to recline further, which isn't something I like to do.

I wish they would have given the CS a more proper seat.

How about reclining the seat a little more and pulling the steering wheel closer? That would accomplish a similar result for your upper body, with the exception that your sight line would be lowered slightly.

That's no good. My helmet fit fine on my non-ZCP cloth seats, are the CS headrests that much more forward? I guess I'll be getting funny looks from the wife tonight when she finds me in the garage sitting in the car with the engine off and my helmet on.

I'd also like standard headrests so we could have the option for these harnesses:

Better yet the CS could have come with the Euro GTS seats at least for the driver.
