Interesting result, obviously the weather didn't help the M3 in the drag but the brake and rolling tests show what an advantage "adding lightness" can be.

M3 is tuned to 540hp, which gives it a better power to weight ratio

“Lightness” does not necessarily help with braking distances over a single stop.

We do not know what tires are on the F8X. Further, cold and damp conditions tend to favor the iron brakes over the CCB on a single stop.

Correct, rudimentary physics does cancel out Mass as a factor, however in the real world there are many more forces at play and mass does affect the result.

I think a damp track, performance tyres and a single braking event taking place in a very unscientific way doesn't exactly make this conclusive! It's a bit of fun though.

On a single stop, I maintain that the M5's mass is not the reason for it needing a longer distance to brake in this test.

Citing some examples:
  • C&D M5 70-0mph: 147ft
  • C&D M3 70-0mph: 153ft
  • MT M5 60-0mph: 97ft
  • MT M3 60-0mph: 101ft
