LRP for first time....

Doing Lime Rock for the first time in my f80 m3. Going with SCDA

Looking to record it. I have go pro. I am finding vids on youtube and in forums of guys over laying the track, mph, times, etc on to the video. I think racechrono looks like a good piece of software but am open to other ideas.

Can any members please ramp me up on how do this? How does a phone app capture the data? Does it link to the cars obd? Or is it all done thru gps and data from the phone. Also how do you get the data from the app/phone on to the video. Where do you mount your phone such that it will pass tech inspections?

Sorry for the beginner questions. If any one could take me by the hand it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Matty.

Most popular app is Harrys. I personally love RaceChrono Pro, the ease of editing is amazing.

You'll need an OBD2 reader (whichever app you go with look at their compatibility list) in order to get engine data like revs, throttle, speed (although this one can be GPS read).

You can use your cell phones GPS for lap times and speeds but the refresh rate is 1hz so the readings are not that good. I highly recommend XGPS160 to link with your app.

You use your phone as the central operating server for all of these components. Press record and all the information gets fed to it.

Attach it after tech is done.

Thanks. Can i used the phones camera?

My gopro is a hero which you cant connect to via Bluetooth. Is there was a way to record the video seperately then add the overlay later ? Grasping at straws. I am trying to use existing hardware.

Do you ever come up to Lime Rock?

GoPro should connect through wifi!

But yes, you can use your phone, just need to get a ram mount.

Sorry I missed your post in that other thread!
