In hindsight, I think I would have passed on the extended warranty for the F80.

I bought my '15 M3 in August of 2018 with 46k miles. I bought a BMW Platinum Ext. Warranty that extends factory warranty to 2022 and 75k total miles for $6K (and that was basically invoice cost through some negotiations).

The car has been pretty bulletproof (knock on wood) in my little over a year of ownership and now has 57k miles on it. I know it'll be more likely to break after 60k+ miles but right now it certainly does not seem like a good deal. Also, I haven't heard of any crazy F80 failures that happen in my current mile range (40k-75k), so it seems like going with BMW's warranty isn't too economical. Most issues seem to occur before 30k miles or with really high mileage vehicles.

I will definitely be giving you guys a call in a few months when my original warranty is coming to an end.

The dealership I went to asked for a ridiculous ~$17K for the full Platinum Plan.

Yep one car and then he acted like an a**hole for the rest of the financing process after I said, "that's way higher than anything I'm comfortable paying for warranty."

Yea, my thoughts exactly. Was for an '16 F82. He had loaded it into the financing price and broke it out by year. When I deducted original payment, the difference over term was ~$17K for Platinum, and ~$12K for Gold.

thats why when you get a quote(new car) etc.. you really have to get the whole quote and look at the full breakdown and not just the sale price and or monthly payment.

Just spoke with Christine today (Checa no longer there?) at Steve Thomas BMW. I asked her to hook me up with forum pricing on warranty and maintenance on my M4, which I actually got from GOLFFRR, so hopefully the name drop helps, too, lol. Otherwise, it seems Fidelity is worth looking into. $2k for repairs on my 335i getting done today definitely makes me want EW for the ///M car.

Checa has moved on to another field unfortunately, but yes Christine will dial you in!! just remember to remind Christine you are a FORUM member so you get the discounted price. But keep in mind BMW warranties are NOT cheap but they can really save your butt in a lot of situations.

any issues let me know I'm on here everyday till about 545pm. Have a great day!

Warranty Company: Fidelity
Miles on car: about 22k
coverage (i.e. 5/60k): 4 years/48k miles from date of purchase
Deductible: 250
cost: $7212
purchased from:

didn't purchase, I'm just posting some insane quote i got on a 2016 M4 with a little over 20k miles. probably could get a BMW warranty for that much, I thought these warranties go for 3-5k, especially with a high deductible like that. insane. It's a platinum bumper to bumper. been seeing quotes from 3-5k idk where this number came from.

My 2016 M4 factory warranty expires in 4 days on 5/15/2020. Car has ~34,000 miles on it. Due to COVID-19, the warranty may actually be extended to June 1.

When I asked my servicing dealer about the BMW Platinum extended warranty that we had on my wife's 2011 335is Coupe, also sold to us by this dealer, they came back with $6400 for 7 years/75K miles (+3 years, +~40K miles). After asking if they offer a BMW CCA discount on extended warranties, they came back with $5999, a discount of about 6.25%. I'm going to counter with $5760, which is 10% off. Checa at Steve Thomas BMW quoted me $6169 in August last year.

My wife's 335is Coupe had numerous problems under warranty, including a turbo, a charge pipe, sunroof motor replaced, exhaust flapper valve, and a few other problems. We purchased a 7 year/100K mile Platinum extended warranty for ~$3500-$3800 about 4 months before the original warranty expired. Under the extended warranty, a water pump was replaced, the engine was replaced with a short block due to a spun main bearing at 70K miles, and several injectors and coil packs were later replaced. After the extended warranty expired, the other turbo was replaced but they only charged us the labor at $600, and then the charge pipe failed again and was replaced under an extended parts warranty. We sold the car in late 2018 at 74,000 miles. It made me think that I never want to own a modern BMW out of warranty. "Once burned, twice shy" as the saying goes...

I'm mainly concerned about the spun crank hub issue, although my engine is not tuned or modified in any way, and the longevity of the DCT. I should mention that I track my car regularly and it currently has 26 track days on it. It's currently in the shop getting the final free maintenance done. I mentioned that my rotors were getting thin, based on feedback from my independent mechanic, and they replaced all four rotors, brake pads, and both brake sensors. I'm supposed to pick it up today.

Hello Everyone,

My 2015 M4 Coupe CPO warranty expires this week.
I contacted Patriot Warranty and they offered me their best plan (Patriot Premier Elite) for $3600 to cover for additional 5yr or additional $75k miles, whichever comes first. Deductible is $100.

I looked for some reviews online and they seem all good.

I noticed this car doesn't really break that easily, but this price seems attractive.

Does anyone have any experience with Patriot Warranty before?
Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you.

anyone with an f80 or f82 have carmax warranty aka maxcare?

their pricing is good but i don't know if the actual warranty is reliable. there's stories like they have a cap on the hourly they pay to the dealer, you gotta pay the rest, or that they deny coverage because of insanely stupid reasons but it's hard to tell how common that is and if the poster of the story actually was at fault and isn't admitting to it.

there's a few horror stories on consumer affairs, but there's alot of really positive feedback with them in general too.

Everything I have heard is that CarMax is the best in terms of coverage and ease to approve repairs. There are videos on YouTube from Doug demuro that talk about his experience with a Land Rover he had.... its crazy what carmax covered. Watch the videos as you will see how easy they truly are on repairs. My only issue is that carmax seems to price cars much higher then average prices in market and do not take offers.. if they are 2k over average price and warranty is 3600 then you are really paying 5600 to have their warranty compared to a private sale.

Agreed. My local German repair shop confirmed that CarMax warranties are the easiest to deal with. They've been in business many years and can only recall a couple of times they actually had to fight hard for the customer to get something covered. Usually it's super easy. The local BMW dealer also said they haven't had major issues with the MaxCare warranty. I also agree that the CarMax pricing is higher than other used car dealers. However, I'll share a positive experience where Carmax stood behind the product they sold and fixed a number of issues, including replacing the rotors because they were found to be just barely above min thickness when I took it to an independent shop after purchase. Between their customer service and the option to purchase MaxCare, I'm sold as a customer.

Warranty Company: MaxCare aka Carmax
Miles on car: 30k
coverage (i.e. 5/60k): 5 years from date of purchase/100k on odometer
Deductible:$150
cost: $3600

for a bumper to bumper warranty, seems like a great deal. my car purchase was a couple grand below KBB, unlike most of carmax cars. maybe cause of covid who knows. carmax said i can drop it off to bmw and they'll deal with it.

i'll update if maxcare covers repairs easily or causes problems, as i've seen some negative reviews on consumer affairs website but most people say carmax warranty is the best in the business (third party).
