I love how our dear fellow member TRZ06 felt the need to shit on his previous M3 even on YouTube after his numerous copy&paste rants on F80Post. Yes, buddy, we get it.

I never drove a 1LE on the track so I can't really compare, but driving one on a quick test drive I couldn't get over the lack of visibility in that thing. Totally distracted me from any pluses it might have had.

Really wish I could swing a CS right now, but my F80 has plenty of life left in it and I can't justify the price difference at the moment.

Quality stuff as usual, from Andy. Lap narration is excellent. Always highlights the positives with each vehicle.

CS/GTS sounds damn good when driven in anger. Those fly by cornering shots toward the end are $.

Lap time leaderboard here: https://www.proracerstake.com/leaderboard. CS slots in where I'd expect.

Pro Racer's Take should add temperature and track conditions to lap time data. The tests don't appear to be rushed at all (unlike with the mag tests), you can assume Andy's always extracting the max out of each car. Reviews are detailed and thorough in every other area. Ambient temp (minimum) & track conditions should also be indicated to complete the picture.

Would be the first U.S. mag/test group to not ignore that relevant, hugely influential lap time variable.

He said they put a cup2 on it. And it would be 2 seconds slower on a super sport.

EDITED: The videoed timed laps were on the Cup 2 tires.

Filmed laps? Believe all of the test footage at the beginning of the review, including the hot lap and published lap time, were set on Cup 2.

Pilgrim speculates PSS 2 seconds slower. Current gen PS4S would about slice that deficit in half.

You're right. There's a close-up of the tires at 6:40 but I was listening to him say that it the CS does not come with the Sport Cup 2 tires in the US, so I was assuming that they hadn't swapped the tires. At the end he does talk about swapping the tires, but I thought that they swapped to the Cup 2 tires and did some more laps. My bad, I guess my comprehension level wasn't high with this video.

Great video! I don’t think I’ve ever driven mine anywhere near that hard, certainly haven’t been on track but I do echo his thoughts. It’s a total joy to be in and drive. I’ve had mine for 20 months now, identical spec SMB with cup2 and CCB’s and I just can’t see me ever wanting to part with it!

Came here for this... that SS1LE is truly an impressive machine.

I wonder tire for tire which one is better, the SC2 or the Goodyears?

The stock tires on the SS 1LE are quite impressive and the ones on the ZL1 1LE even more so. I have 2 track buddies that track SS 1LEs. One of them tried PSC2 and NT01 and was slightly slower than on the stock tires with both of these tires. He also tried the ZL1 1LE tires and was over 2 seconds faster on a 2min track, the caveat is that they barely lasted 2 track days. The other one will be trying out RE71R this season, I am looking forward to see his lap times.

Curious to see how a base M4 with Cup2 tires and a bm3 tune would do on the same track.

With the impending G82 disaster, I’m watching M4 CS prices closely. Maybe I’ll finally be forced to go to the dark side and lose my beloved 6MT but options are just dwindling. I love the F82 so much, hopefully CS prices will crater enough in a couple years to make the switch from a Civic M4 seem worthwhile.

Probably not far off but still likely slower. The fact that the M4cs' suspension and electronics are optimized for the PSC2 is an important contributor here. I am over 2 seconds faster at my local track (~1:50 lap) with my M4cs than I was with my 2015 M4 on the same tires (NT01). It is the combination of all the small improvements in the different areas that work in unison that makes the difference: the suspension and electronics optimized for R-comp tires, the improved aero, the lighter weight and increased power and torque.

I drove the V8 SS Six speed; phenomenal driving car!

1) it's to small for me inside the cabin

2) I can't judge the spacing/visibility

Imagine the view driving a tank; that's what it feels like

The stock tires on the SS 1LE are quite impressive and the ones on the LS1 1LE even more so. I have 2 track buddies that track SS 1LEs. One of them tried PSC2 and NT01 and was slightly slower than on the stock tires with both of these tires. He also tried the LS1 1LE tires and was over 2 seconds faster on a 2min track, the caveat is that they barely lasted 2 track days. I assume what you call the LS1 is the ZL1 in USA. Those tires I do know are one of the best but also like 100TW.

But according to your friend's experience that would put the SS1LE tires better than the NT01 and RE71R which are both great tires. I do wonder if they used the same sizes, because I believe they are not all available in the same configurations.

With that said the SS1LE does have the size advantage in the front running 295s, that in itself should make a big difference even though it is a slightly heavier car. That M4CS must've been running the 265 PSC2 which are significantly narrower, so I do believe with a wider front you could definitely squeeze out a bit more out of the M4CS.

Again, speaks to how amazing that SS1LE is. Now if I could only get over the stigma that comes with driving that car...

Yes, ZL1, typo on my part and fixed my OP.

The SS 1LE is indeed one great driver's car. I got to drive it on track and it is very enjoyable.

As for the tires, it could only be a case that the NT01 and PSC2 were not as well suited for the car as the stock tires, not that they are “inferior” per se. IMO it just means that the stock SS 1LE tires are pretty darn good.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but real curious to hear your thoughts on SS1LE vs M4CS. From a track perspective... fun factor, outright speed, confidence, etc... Are they as similar character wise as the numbers would lead you to believe?
