BMW can’t build a Tesla competitor, hell no body can right now. They are great cars.
BMW should focus on their niche- sporty luxury car with soul. Something they have forgotten.

As I stated earlier there are many studies questioning benefits of EV cars for the environment vs ICE. In the end, consumers stand to get shafted for higher priced cars with less performance.
If you want a Porsche go buy one.

Please do understand it is not possible to meet the EU regulations without at least hybrid versions, there are markets besides the states.

If you want supercharged V8 we have planty of them made in the states.

BMW is building whatever the customer and government is asking for! People asked for M SUV, AWD M Cars etc. and BMW made them.

No one asked for that
It's a disguise to claim they listen but plans are already made far in advance of any of their question on what we would like
Only under a big outcry of the community did they end up bringing back the transmission in one of the M3/M4 G series modes.
If you want to keep believing that they care about your opinion go ahead it's your right. Take all the surveys they send you
This is a crucial time for BMW. For example if the C63 comes out as a 4banger and BMW continues with an I6 and sees sales continue to grow as much as the previous generation do you really think they're gonna switch if they are ahead of the competition? Don't be stupid. If in this example all the competitors against the M3/M4 are going in another direction while GX and further continue to sell more than previous generation BMW ain't gonna change $hit I don't care what Tesla is doing.

Maybe the media picked nits but owners loved it out of the gate.

I know I ordered mine for Euro Delivery sight unseen on the basis of “‘More power, less weight, can handle 100F ambient temps track days, most track focused M3 out of the box”

And people will also buy the G80, no doubt. The G80 will also be "better" as the F80.

Maybe this article will help to understand what's going on currently in the EU and what the manufacturer are facing.

sure they could. I mean the civic type r is as fast or faster than an f80 on most tracks and its fwd. But you would need a hybrid assist most likely to fill in for the lag.. since you will need a big turbo to move the heavy 3 series. So now you have an combustion engine, paired with a turbo, paired with an electric battery. More complexity = more chances of something to fail.

im also not sure of any hybrid systems with a manual trans. not sure if its possible.

at this point you might as well just go all electric.
i dont think they can, unless they use electric motor as well.

The civic type R is not faster than the M4 on any tracks, the nurburg time was set with roll cage, track tires, upgraded suspension, etc.

Put that on a stock M4 and you will get 10 seconds slower than a GTS at 7.37.

The M2 is faster than the civic R.

The a class amg uses a 4 cylinder and once again its slower, i don't know if you can make a faster 4 cylinder than a 6 if both are trying to make a fast car.

you're right the M4 is faster. That civic lap was done on slicks/cage/seat deletes.

But here are some comparison times with a V8 e92 and a 4 cylinder civic type R. Civic is clearly faster on most tracks. despite having half the engine size. it makes it up in light weight and turbocharging.

power to weight is more important than cylinder count.

Here's a link one of those original threads: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=923203

Some descriptors said in that thread about the F80 at the beginning:

Simply stunning!!!!!
Holy Smokes!!!!
nice nice
Wow, looks great!
Both look great! But man, the 4 door. I'm digging it big time.
WOWZERS!!
OMG! I'm effin speechless!
M3 looks amazing.
Wow, awesome post and info. Both cars are sick.
WOW!!! Where do I sign? M3 is gorgeous!
my lord

And that's just from the first 2 pages. Needless to say, LOW4LYF's claim that "Nobody liked the F80 at the beginning" is absolutely, unequivocally and utterly FALSE!

Of course, that's a completely unbiased sampling taken from the pages of the F80 Bimmerpost forum. Proves everything...

Apparently 718 2.0 was very successful in China because you are taxed heavily for over 2L engine.

Maybe BMW wants a piece of cake in the continent and is trying to moneybag rest of the world by forcing 4 cylinder hybrid on us? :smh

I would take an 8,000 rpm revving naturally aspirated inline 4 hybrid over turbo engines any day.

Almost every E9x M owner was bitching around because of the 6 Cylinder!
People loved and still love the V8.

I hated the F8x and I am still not the biggest fan.

Let's wait till we have an official release and go from there.

BMW could be nail it and people will still complain and complain and complain...

We are talking about styling.
Nobody complained about F8x cars.

The G80 is ugly from the renders and majority of ppl on this forum Hate it.
The fact is it will also be heavier, more expensive, have Auto trans, less raw compared to F80. I think it will be faster, more comfortable and be better daily especially for those that need AWD.
