Pull to the right, SIB 32 01 17

BMW has finally come out with a service bulletin for the pull to the right issue. Bring your car in and have them reference 32 01 17, it has a retrofit to program on the EPS. The dealer should have the software loaded this week as it was released Friday night. After please post if it fixed the issue. I still need to put more miles on to see what I think.

Do they update the whole car at the same time? Or just the EPS module?

My entire car is getting flashed to the latest program. Will it include this SIB?

The whole car will be updated, but you do have to complain of the pull and reference the SIB. The fix will only be done if the tech selects the "steering assistance" coding retrofit while programming the car. Normal programming will not activate the fix.

Do you have a copy of your invoice?
Or does anyone have access to bmwtis.com and could post a screenshot of exactly what is involved with SI B 32 01 17?

Just got this info, it's all part of the SIB:
First do alignment, swap wheels, etc. then
"Program and encode the vehicle to integration level F020-17-500 available in ISTA/P 3.62.0 or later (available mid-July 2017).
Retrofit with Pull Drift Compensation (PDC) function via Coverstion-Active Steering Assistance Retrofitting."
They have a bloody acronym for the fix!!
Years of dealing with this pull, multiple alignments and tweaks. Years of bmw saying "it's a safety issue so you don't go in wrong lane" "it's just following the crown" "we'll add positive camber to the driver's side". All BS! They should have said there's a problem and we are working on a fix. Then, this should be a recall/warranty update for ALL cars made before 2017.
Super lame and frustrating BMW. :

Did your car pull to the right before? And after the update it still pulls?? This would be very disappointing....

I would like to say adding positive camber might be a solution for people who is straggling for this pulling issue...I feel my car drives well, and tracks straight after they made the left camber to from -1.3 to -1.1.....and so far i don't see any excessive tire wear

This is what my SA sent me for the problem:

SITUATION
Vehicle is reportedly pulling to one side (when no braking is being attempted).
CAUSE
The design concept of M vehicles is to provide maximum feedback from the driving surface and, in combination with the tires, may present vehicle pull to one side following the road camber.
CORRECTION
Verify all the parameters of the steering and suspension components on the front axle.
PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
1. Carry out a test drive with the customer to replicate the issue.

2. Note all pertinent wheel/tire data.

3. Verify tires are inflated as per specifications on the B-pillar tire data label.

4. Check the tire tread for damage and repair as needed.

5. Inspect the front axle components of the chassis and suspension including wishbone, tension struts and track rod, repairing any abnormalities discovered.

6. Take vehicle measurements using the Kinematics Diagnosis System (KDS). Restore all as close to setpoint values as possible

7. Test drive vehicle.

Have the driving characteristics been improved?
YES- return vehicle to customer.
NO – go to next step.
8. Exchange the left and right front wheels.

9. Test drive vehicle.

Have the driving characteristics been improved?
YES- return vehicle to customer.
NO – go to next step.
10. Exchange wheels back to their original locations.

11. Check production date of vehicle.

Was vehicle produced prior to July 1, 2017?
YES- Go to next step.
NO – Go to Step 13
12. Program and encode the vehicle to integration level F020-17-07-500 available in ISTA/P 3.62.0 or later (available mid-July 2107).

13. Retrofit with Pull Drift Compensation (PDC) function via Conversion-Activate Steering Assistance Retrofitting.

He basically said that if the shop foreman doesn't feel there's enough of a pull, then they won't follow this procedure. Not sure it's worth my time since the foreman originally said the car drove fine...

Sorry didn't response sooner. I never notice my car pulls to the right that is why I said it didn't make any difference. I have them installed my MP HAS kit two weeks prior and after the update and riding for couple days, my car seems to ride better than stock and steering wheels feels like a lot tighter. Maybe because of my car slightly lowered or the update. here is the copy of the invoice.

Yeah uh.. I'm going to pass on the SIB.. good excuse to get the latest I-LEVEL flashed though..

http://wardsauto.com/news-analysis/f...ift-technology

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=20

I rather not have any electronic gimmicks dampening the steering, however could be interesting to wait for this firmware file to trickle down to the interwebs, so we can flash the EPS ourselves with the retrofit option or without.

I got the firmware updated according to the SIB referenced. The car still tracks straight, but I really don't feel any changes to the steering wheel, especially the tightness that some forum members felt after the update....I am still missing the tight, crispy hydraulic steering feel. The result just feels like they did not do the eps retrofit

I also got the alignment checked, the wired thing is even with the positive camber swivel bearing on, my front two cambers are even now (both at -1.5 after lowering, but I think the previous alignment just after installing the lowering springs showed the front cambers were -1.1 left -1.4 right. But the shop foreman said they did not take the positive camber part off....).

Thanks for the info on sib 32 01 17. The dealership wanted to charge me for the alignment and I told them that since the SIB calls for the patch to be applied at the end they have to honor the alignment for free because it is technically not an alignment issue.

How a tune effects the SIB fix

I currently have a BM3 tuned m3.

Do you guys know if the bm3 tune would "undo" the SIB fix if I flashed a different tune on there?

I hope not, but thought I would ask!

Thanks

man I had this issue, kept pulling to the right at first it was my tires, 1 tire was bulging had them replace the front tires and align the car, still pulled to the right, aligned it again, i think it was alittle better but still pulled to the right. found this forum and had the dealer update the software to reference the sib and it drives straight now. The weird thing is I've had my car for almost 4 years, did it just develop this sympton on its own? I don't remember having this issue ever, not until the tire got fucked.

bump - could any CS owner maybe scan or take a pic of their paperwork? My dealer is stating my car is incompatible with the update/TSB like many others are saying and they are refusing to do it.

Thank you!

Bring up this thread again. I am curious if anyone has an answer to this question.

Thanks.

I know this is an older thread but thought I would bump up and refresh since it's a common issue. My 2018 M3CS experienced the right hand pull issue and they tried all the normal stuff to fix it and none worked. They initially told me the flash was not compatible with a CS model but eventually they did find it in a "steering assistance" submenu and loaded it in the car and the difference was day and night. On center feel and initial tun in was much improved as well. I'm very happy with the fix.

How long did it take for your cars to be flashed? Just got the M4 dropped off and it's gonna be there for two nights including an oil change.

So, having alignment issues with my 2019 M4CS. Alignment keeps going off. It's already cost me 2 new front tires at 5k miles. BMW re aligned it February 2020 and now I'm in for check and after 2 k miles of driving alignment is off again. I have car lowered with MP suspension kit and have 15 mm spacers all the way around.
I mentioned the SIB patch and they said it's only applicable for models prior to July 2017.
Only thing they're saying now is they need to re align the car without the spacers first and see if that helps.
Any thoughts on this? I feel like if that was the answer then they should have aligned it without the spacers on original alignment back in August 2019
Thanks for any help or advice

I'm still having this issue as well and I've mentioned the SIB to my dealer multiple times and they say it's "it's up to date". I will be finding out later with some coding.
