Yup, it's there in all modes and it's useless. Easy to ignore though.

I stand corrected. Pretty useless on an automatic car, IMO.

It's only active in the manual mode, so it makes sense.

So, I checked again. This function is not activated on my car. Maybe it is a Canadian model thing .

Anyway, I could not really care less about this feature. I was just curious as to why I did not see it .

It's not just Canada, it is not active on my car either.

I guess we'll just add it to the stack of mysteries with this car. Others include some cars always starting up with A/C on while some don't and (in the US) some people got heated rear seats thrown in free on their F80 while others didn't.

Like you, I don't care about this feature at all. I had forgotten all about it until you brought it up.

Ditto to E92! I have it on my Canadian 6MT.

However, I have noticed that they want us to up shift rather early. Around 2000 rpm, the indicator comes on for the next gear. I am a little confused as if I shift at that low rpm, the rpm will be very low at next gear and the car won't be fun...

Nor would it be good for carbon build up! Would have thought they would have figured that out with the N54/55 motors. Damn those CAFE standards!

My 2008 STI had this same feature, you learn to ignore it after a while.

I have it on my 6MT but IMO it is a complete waste of a feature. Just tells me to be in 6th gear 99% of the time. It's probably there for some sort of check box on a fuel efficiency reg.

That's how they calculate fuel economy to make you drive like a grandma.

Anyway to have this feature coded out? I've been driving manual cars my entire life and find the indicator annoying.

I don't have it on my DCT either, and I drive in manual mode 90% of the time. I have never seen it, although I have on other cars.

Mine doesn't come on even in S mode, the 235i had it and i turned it off as soon as I got the car. Like someone previously mentioned it pretty much told me to be in 6th all the time lol pretty glad this one doesn't show it.

Thumbs down

Totally useless, but easy for me to ignore. I have 6MT. I doubt that using the optimum shift indicator would have that much effect on gas mileage in the real world.

What I've noticed though is it's fairly clever in the sense that if you are cornering hard the recommendation goes away during the corner.

My optimum shift indicator is the red light on the shift lights! Seriously
