Folks, as I mentioned in another thread, if you are interested in the DIY update procedure, you can also easily find what you want by using the power of Google to look for info on "Flashing KOMBI" on a F8x (which is what you want to do): the info is out there.

I recently encountered the same problem when took my car for service and requested the HUD to be updated. I ended up having to show them pictures of the updated HUD and they agreed to look into it. They ended up starting a PUMA case with BMW which taught them how to do it. According to my work order sheet, the entire car was reprogrammed and not just the HUD module.

I now have the updated HUD and the AC now remembers the last settings by default. The iDrive was also updated to a newer version than what is available online. The current software version I have is 3.001, while the latest one available online is 2.255

So just back from the dealer...they just moved into a new building, so many of their systems are updating. They did not have the software today, but should have it in a couple of weeks. My SA is really good and is going to call me when he has it to download to my car. I did get an oil change though! I'll report back when I have the update...

My dealership got the upgrade in and it was installed today. The upgraded HUD is awesome! And as a few others have noted after the upgrade, my A/C is now coded to the last position it was in prior to shutdown.

Had to reset many of my I-Drive settings that were lost, but it did keep my profile info for mirrors, seat, etc.

Highly recommend this upgrade! Almost couldn't take my eyes off the HUD. So much more useful with the bolder colors.

so, if considering a DIY for this after coding everything else successfully, how important is it to have a serious charger hooked up to the car, as opposed to a 6-amp charger?

Only have about a 5 minute drive home from the dealership, so haven't had a chance to judge completely yet...but...it did seem a little louder. I have been holding off disconnecting AS until after this upgrade. Still undecided if I want to do that. I'll have to see after a few days if it is noticeably louder, but after that first drive, I would say yes.

I flashed my KOMBI using a Ctek Lithium US charger, which is only 4.3A: fully charge your battery before you start and leave the charger connected during the flash. The flash itself only takes 7.5 minutes.

That's good first-hand evidence that the rumored 2016 exhaust changes might just boil down to a software update.
