Bottom line: S65 will be a classic legendary engine..
It's this kind of ignorance that makes BMW owners such a rare breed. The 335i can also outrun the S65 easily, so why is the V8 so good? Just because of sound? It's a driver's car, not a musical instrument. If you want an uncompromising vehicle with intoxicating sound AND good looks AND back breaking performance AND comfort AND superb handling find an extra $250k and buy a Ferrari. Otherwise all the whining is just intolerable, it's a 60-70k dollar car for god's sake.

The comments here from E90/92 owners disparaging the sound of this F30 are hilarious.

I own an E90 and I think this new F30 sounds fantastic.

It's the usual "I'm so insecure that a new one is coming out that I have to convince myself that my current car is better no matter what I am actually hearing."

It's been the same with every gen of M3.

OMG this E36 is super soft, I'll forever keep my true racing E30! (this one is the only that may have had a point IMO)
OMG this E46 is bloated, my E36 is better and I'll never trade it in!
OMG this E90 is now an heretic V8 and even more bloated, my E46 is better and I'll never trade it in!
OMG this F30 is now turbo and sounds like shit (not). I'll forver keep the last N/A M engine!

And so on and so forth.

I don't think you understand the relivance of his comments, and why comparing HIS modified car to a stock alternative is pertinent.

But, that's just fine.
lol
What's funny is that you actually took the time to type and explain his comment.
Are you and him an item?

But, that's just fine

With an easy tune the F80 M3 will get about the same performance numbers as the F10 M5...while weighing 800lbs less (assuming M3 is 3,500lbs)

It won't fail and your hopes will be forgotten, Bottom line, the S65 is the last NA V8 BMW is going to make...

you too!? man, it was also hard to peel me away from my modded Neon SRT4 with a GT35R...that thing sounded better than my M3 and definitely faster...

note, the lack of bumpers and hood is to decrease weight and increase air flow.

Exactly. People around here don't seem to have much knowledge of or love for BMW heritage. They all have their E92's and act like nothing existed before it. The E9X is the aberration, and going back to 6 cylinders is going back to the way it has always been.

I see that Carbon Ceramic BBK gleaming, looks and sounds great. So anxious for the reveal and what tuners will do with this platform. Especially CoBB!

I have to say I too was a bit disappointed with the sound, but I guess I shouldn't expect too much with a $70k car.

I also agree that the S65 sounds similar to a big American V8, but that should not be too surprising, should it? Even so, I would say it still sounds better than the S55.

The best engine note I've ever heard is Honda's 3.5 liter V12 F1 engine (sample below); too bad no street car (not even those hyper/supercars) has come close to replicating it:

If I have to pick the best sounding stree-legal car right now, the Pagani Zonda 760RS would probably get my vote:

I suppose it's too much to ask BMW to make the new M3/M4 to sound like either one of those two...

It does. While I do have an E92 I'm not wedded to it and I'm open minded and excited about the M4. But that car sounds like ass.

I am sure it will handle great but we will miss the current M3 and its might V8.

BMW should have went with a turbo charged smaller V8 (3.8 to 4.0) like the Mclaren MP-12C which is the only super car that does not have the Gas Guzzler tax.

I will reserve final judgement until after comparos and a test drive but I will say the sound has improved slightly with every sighting IMO. I think it's starting to sound kinda "Porsche flat 6" like. I think that's on purpose and probably the best we can possibly hope for out of 6 cylinders. Just my opinion... I have no doubt it's gonna be faster than what I currently have, but will it be better...
