Car doesn't start immediately when hitting start button
I am a little concerned about how my car starts.
When I first got my car, and pushed the start button, the response was crisp and immediate. The car started immediately. No delay whatsoever... Now when I push the start button, it takes a couple seconds before it starts. There is a noticeable delay. I also had an F30 335 before this, and that always started immediately for me. There was never any sort of delay. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, and should I be worried about it? I can schedule an appointment this week I suppose, but I'm wondering if it's justified...

a couple of seconds where nothing happens? or it takes a few extra "cranks" for it to start? because mine has been doing this for couple months now. doesn't happen every time but every once and a while it'll take a few cranks/sputtering (idk if that makes sense) for the car to start. mines 2 years old with 23,500 miles on it

It's only about a 2 to 3 second delay, but it's definitely noticeable. When I first got my car, the response was crisp and immediate. Now it's not.

Mine has started to do this as well, very noticeable that it went from an instant-on to a 2-3 second crank to start. Weather is hot out too.

Lambo's and Ferrari's have this delayed start when hitting the start button.
Maybe our cars are Exotic In all seriousness interested to hear more chime in .. especially those that have hit about a year and half plus on the cars.. sounds like this is about the mark a few of us have noticed this so far. I'm in HOT ASS FL... wonder if the heat has anything to do with it... wouldn't think so as its the first start.... but who knows

Yep, mine does this too. Not everytime but it has been something I have taken notice of.
Bringing back memories of the dreaded long crank with failing HPFP on the N54. |

Happens to me as well. Car takes 2-3 extra cranks to start up. I started holding the start button (rather than a quick press) but that does not change the behavior at all. It does not happen all of the time though. I've noticed it fires up immediately with no extra cranks after I've driven it for a few miles. Car has about 15K miles and once or twice it failed to start at all and I had to wait about 5-10 mins before trying to start it again. I do have a bad feeling about it and believe the next time it doesn't start, I'll have to have it towed.
I wanted to add that it's been happening for a while now. Maybe 10,000 miles. SA didn't mention any codes last time I was at the dealer which was about two months ago. Last edited by fjabad; 08-05-2016 at 05:59 PM.. Reason: additional info |

I have noticed that extra cranking on my car too during the last several weeks. Definitely a change from what I consider to be normal for the car. Mine is almost 2 years old with 11K miles now.

Mine started a month or two ago also at around 20k miles. My N54 also did this. It seems the hotter weather perhaps?

It seems there's a good number of owners with this issue. I have it too on my M4 with 900 miles in. Its been like this since after 2 weeks of owning it. There is a delay on mine, seems like a weak crank. When I used to have the F30, it would start up at the touch of the button.
Wonder if this will become a bigger problem down the road or is it just normal? : |

Have you guys checked the charging status of your battery? This beast consumes some significant energy ever time you drive it (all the tech gizmos are energy consumers). While it's a lithium battery, when you're moving to the last 85% or so of the battery capacity, the battery voltage drops off significantly. This could affect you if you drive it short distances consistently leaving the battery undercharged.

I have the same issue. Seems random and I am at a little over 11k miles. Possibly a battery issue?

Yep....definitely noticeable on mine. 5200 miles.
Every now and then it'll actually go to start and then turn off so I have to press it again. Took it to BMW and they said they couldn't find the problem. |

Similar experience. 2016 model built in sept15 with 14k miles. I daily it.
I've only noticed this happening after leaving from work. Never at home leaving for work. Both home and work are in garages. The only differences I can see between the two are either weather or times. The car sits at work for about 8 hours and 14 hours at home.

Mine had started to do this...when I took it to the dealer they said the charge pipe had come loose. After they fixed that it has been no issues.
In my case that solved the issue |

My car is kept in the garage at home. The parking lot at work is out in the wild. Even though I don't notice it as much when I start the car in the morning at home, I still don't think it's as crisp there as it was when I first got it.
