JD Power Survey for M3

Anyone else receive JD Power survey information in the mail recently? Yesterday I received a letter with information to go online and complete a survey for my M3. The letter indicates JD Power is working with BMW to gather opinions from new vehicles owners about the quality and performance of my vehicle. I plan on taking the survey this afternoon. The best part is a $1 bill was enclosed to show their gratitude : but hey a dollar is a dollar.

Anyone taken one of these? I like to think that BMW will do something to improve their products based on honest feedback.

I have received and completed these in the past for other cars but did not receive one for my M4. It is most likely for J.D. Power initial quality ratings, which focuses mostly on the identification of problems in first X days / months of ownership rather than features or options you'd like to see BMW add or change (although there may be opportunity to add opinion on that topic as well).

Agree. So score the car high if you want good resale...

I've completed two of these for my current M3 so far. I generally get a lot of these surveys, I guess because I always respond.

I just completed the survey and honestly I have not had any issues whatsoever with my M3. The questions are very specific and cover almost every detail of the car which is quite impressive. I wish I had this survey for my F30 335 which had several interior rattles/squeaks!

JD Power is mostly bullshit. They do these surveys and then their real business is a consulting practice to help companies do better on the surveys. But the practice is far more on "gaming the survey" than actual improvements. Source: been through it on the manufacturers side at a former employer. No actual credibility among manufacturers - if you pay them consulting money you tend to do well on the survey. Imagine that. In other words, JD Powers is a shake-down.

Yup I agree ,, they will probably make tons more money by selling survey to competing company or so,

Kept the dollor and the survey went straight to garbage

A rare occurrence for me and not really a big deal. Compared to my F30 where the brakes squealed for 30k miles and made me want to torch the car in an alleyway (not to mention the interior squeaks and creaks, my F80 is night and day improvement in overall quality. A little stone being lodged in the dust shield for a second I'll take over other issues I've had with previous BMWs.

Yes I've received it and some other companies survey. I filled them out because it's one of the best ways to get BMW's attention (whether positive or negative). I was impressed with the level of detail. For non car geeks, the surveys are probably annoying, tedious, and most likely headed to the trash.

But why not log the issue? That is the whole point of the survey.

On a related note I got a survey via email. No dollar! I guess the check is in the mail? :

I always just take the dollar bill. So nice and crisp! I feel bad for about 2 seconds, and spend it. Thank you!

It was pretty damn crisp, I only felt bad about the crease it would have being folded in my wallet LOL

Just did mine. Only 1 issue: pebbles in the brake shield. Other than that, perfectly happy with my F80.

I only drove mine for 6 days on ED, and awaiting redelivery, but I got the JD Powers survey yesterday for the M4. I can't honestly respond yet, so I'll just keep teh dollar.

How will you sleep at night taking that dollar and not doing the survey!

Congrats on the purchase, ED must have been a great experience.

I got a couple of these from jd power for my 16 M3. Im torn as to whether to fill it out because i have had multiple issues with the idrive system. On one hand, if i fill it out, maybe bmw takes notice and does a better job in the future to work out bugs before production. On the other, as someone else mentioned, im (maybe irrationally) worried it will hurt resale if enough people report the same problem.

As with most surveys though, they are usually biased as most people that answer are people at the extremes, either with lots of issues or extremely happy.
