European maps to North American Maps

I bought a 2017 x3 in Germany (US specs) and it came with European maps. I’m now stationed back in US and need North American maps loaded. Sewell BMW in Dallas quoted me $350, which doesn’t seem bad at all, but this is 10 hours away from me. I’m closest to El Paso, but the BMW dealership their just quoted me $1,200, which isn’t cool at all. I’m now reading a lot of things that this can possibly be done by myself and save me a ton of money? Please advise me of what is reality and not, and how to handle this issue? Thank you

I also have an US Specs X5 here in Italy that i originally opted for European maps when ordered… interested on seeing if you are able to successfully change your maps and functions without the dealer doing it…
