Any other tips or tricks you can pass on to the rest of us? Was it just a matter of filling it till it flows out then starting it and bringing it up to the proper temp, running it thru the gears and then topping it off?

This is odd. Audi DSG fluid changes are done religiously every 40k (or sooner) and Porsche looks to do it every 60k or so. Why BMW would say its lifetime fill is beyond me.

As for tips and tricks, make sure you have all the components for the service. DCT pan and internal filter, at least 7 litres of Oem fluid and the one time use bolts. When you drain it all out, make sure the DCT is at full operating temperature to drain as much of the fluid out as possible. Then put the fluid back into the DCT till it starts dripping out. Let the transmission cool down to about 40 degrees. Add in fluid again till it starts dripping out again. And voila, done! |

Yes sorry forgot to mention that crucial part. You need ISTA for monitoring of gearbox temp and the operation of the pump after you have drained the fluid to squeeze out any extra fluid in the gearbox. My friend works at a BMW dealer and was able to do it for me

As a reminder to everyone, always consider doing an analysis of the oil if you are curious about if it was the right thing to do at the given mileage. https://www.blackstone-labs.com/

I can't imagine leaving the DCT fluid in the car for more than 40K miles. After my experience with the GTR and it's service interval of about 36K, I'm in no way a believer of the "lifetime" fluid. After watching temps that these things see, no fluid would hold up in any way to 250+ degree temps. Nissan even stated in its owner's manual that if you hit over 260 degrees at any time, the fluid had to go. Now granted the GTR does not come from the factory with a sufficient trans cooler (actually used engine coolant and a tiny exchanger) temps got way high very quickly on track. We're talking 2 to 3 hard laps at Thunder Hill for example.
I'm at 19K now and plan to swap out the fluid and filters at about 40K. |

DCT GTS from bm3 car not smooth and delay D->R still there THOR CS(and yes thor cs works on my 2015 car without errors) is very fast but not so smooth on 3->2->1 (doesnt matter D/S 1,2,3) THOR GTS is perfect, FAST D->R, when coming to a stop everything is smooth, almost eliminate all sounds, in 80% of cases no sounds(i checked my diff, driveshafts and propershaft and they are in perfect condition) Is all about the gearbox software, if clutch not full disengage at right time when you try to stop car create clunk sounds on transmision. Defenetly thor gts is not same software as bm3 gts. |
