Brake fluid flush cost at dealer

I don't have maintenance plan. Car is 2017 with 25k miles. Dealer quoted me $200 for brake flush service. Seems reasonable but I wanted to check.

Also car is due to full vehicle inspection. Again cost out of my pocket. I think it's $150. Is it highly recommended or nothing special like check air in tires and windshield washer?

$200 sounds about right for a dealership brake fluid change.

As for the $150 vehicle inspection...what is included there? Your car is low mileage...what exactly needs to be checked? Sounds like BS.

Do it yourself! It's super easy, all you need is a $50 brake bleeder and a jack. Well worth the investment.

I would skip the dealer for the brake fluid flush. Indy shop could do it for much less. I was quoted 75 bucks at my mechanics for DOT4.

your kids or significant other have legs?

save your $50. I always get a firmer pedal manual bleed plug no mess to clean up. years ago I left fluid in my motive bleeder and all the hoses melted after a year.

everyone thanks for your thoughtful responses!

I live in a condo in the middle of nowhere - no good euro indy within 1hr drive and no space or tools. I don't mind dealer prices ($100 oil changes so far) until the car is under warranty and maintenance history helps with resale. I'll find out what vehicle inspection consists of but it popped up on my monitor as due.

I just did my brake fluid change at 25K miles (2 months ago) as well. Easy to do as I also live in a condo complex with no garage, just a car port. I spent $10 on the bleed kit from the local auto parts store. No way will I pay a dealer to do it for $200 for such an easy task. Curious, how do you spend $75+ on a bleed kit? Makes no sense to me.

I just spent $53 on a pressure bleeder. I did see some other cheaper ones that used your external compressor instead of the hand-pump canister. But then the need for driers/filters/blah they recommended would end up costing more. Either way even $50 is cheap compared to paying a dealer to do this. Especially when its something that should be done pretty regularly. I am guilty of neglecting to do this maintenance on schedule in past cars. But now I can do it myself with $10 in fluid whenever I need to. Yay.

Just for reference - 2016 M4, quote from a local reputable Indy shop:
- $150 plus tax - oil service and safety inspection using the BMW LL01FE 0w30
- $180 - brake flush

Which shop is this? Seems overpriced, IMO.

Can someone confirm that we can just do a normal bleed procedure on these cars. I recall suggestions that we needed to use INPA or something to cycle the ABS/DSC units, but then most posts don't mention that at all. Planning on doing the first flush on this car in the next ~1-2 months. just ticked past the 3 year mark. Only at ~20k miles, and no track sessions though, so not in any rush.

Normal bleeding procedure. Nothing special to it. Harder to jack the car up and jack stand it, than it is to bleed it.

I had a local racing shop do mine and it was 204 out the door with tax. They used a Motul fluid but that seems to be the going rate.

I’m pretty sure it’s the end of warranty vehicle inspection, it’s on the normal maintenance schedule at the 4 year mark so if your still in warranty period i would pay them to do it a little before it’s over so if anything is wrong you can have it covered under warranty.

Technically to do it properly you need to use the procedure you mention above (INPA) to cycle/flush the ABS system. A traditional bleed (either manual or power bleeder) will not get all the air out if there is air in the ABS. I bleed my own brakes on my track car, but for the daily I would have the dealer do it with the proper ABS cycle.
