Carbahn Tune

I know there’s a few threads of people sharing experiences with Carbahn, but would just like to maybe have a thread specifically for Carbahn since their thread is locked.

Curious if anyone who has dealt with carbahn(stage1), can provide some feedback on the customer service and the tune itself. Dynos, time slips 60-130 times, track day experiences would be great!

Just pulled trigger for the wife’s m4 so I’m just getting antsy! I know there are higher HP tunes out there but warranty is important!

Thank you

Been thinking about this tune, specifically since they offer warranty. I sent them an email for more details about their warranty coverage but I haven't gotten a response. Was inquiring if they specifically cover crank hub slippage when tuned.

They actually claim they haven’t had any failures with their stage 1 tune. I would assume if bmw denies a claim due to the tune, they will pickup the tab. From my research it seems like the stage 1 tune puts you at about 470-490 whp, and according to carbahn they don’t require a crank hub fix until you want a stage 2 package.

I heard Carbahn tune is glitchy with a 6MT. Not sure this is true or not. Any feedback on this tune with a manual?

Which part? Some of the information is off their website, but I’ve also talked to Chris at carbahn a few times.

I had the tune while under factory warranty. Moved on to BM3 now.

I don’t have a manual but I’ll answer what I can.

Customer service - Was fairly responsive. Nice to deal with.

Tune - no issues with my CH or anything. They don’t require switching plugs to colder plugs and their handheld unit offers code reading/diagnostics. Only hiccup I had was that I had to request them to correct my burble option that I requested but the tune didn’t include.

I know I was one of the first customers who tried out their 2nd tune revision which made the tune a lot smoother.

No before or after dyno but I definitely felt the difference.

In the end, BM3 won me over post warranty since I could do much more than a single tune.

Also their handheld will not store multiple tune revisions other than your stock file and one tune file. Not sure why when there are multiple memory slots.

Hope that helps.

Nice thanks for the feedback.
how did the power compare to bm3?
How long does it take to switch from stage 1 to stock map and vice versa

Honestly both Stage 1’s are about the same since running on ACN91.

Time to load maps is also about the same but maybe a slight nod to CarBahn on that one since it’s all contained on the handheld tuner. No need to communicate to server etc.

I’m running BM3 Stage 2 atm so that’s something Carbahn can’t offer. Also won’t be able to remove CEL.

I have their stage 1. Love it but I have my eyes on their stage 2 tune once my warranty is up. Stage 2 requires crank hub upgrade and upgraded turbos.

585 HP!

I would love to hear feedback on stage 2 if anyone has it....

Your car DCT? Any issues with the tune. I'm really considering stage 1 myself

DCT. Absolutely, no issues with the tune. If I had to do it again, I would.

I have their stage 1 tune and really like it. Customer service has been good and responsive. It was one of the safest bets out there when I was searching and I took BzsBimmer advice and pulled the trigger a while ago.

Nice! I think I'll go this path. I like how the car feels stock. I am MT, but curious as to what they said about Stage 1 not needing CH fix? Wonder if its because how they manage torque. Its Steve Dinan's company, and that man knows a thing or two about making reliable factory like solutions for BMWs

Might have been me that said this. Well not glitchy, but can be a bit twitchy. Specifically when launching. It just requires a bit more concentration when moving from a standstill in sport and sport plus. Efficient is fine.

It's a minor minus in the tune, but I love everything else. It makes good power and its ridiculously smooth through the rev range.

Just FYI, Carbahn is Steve Dinan's new company. After leaving Dinan to go racing, he decided to get back into the tuning business and created Carbahn. I've heard good things about the products and service thus far.

"Vehicles that have had a software update from a BMW dealer, or new vehicles delivered after June 2019 have an updated bootloader block that currently prevents OBD flashing. In this case, the DME will have to be sent to Carbahn Autoworks for bench loading"

Does anybody know if this different from bench 'flashing'? Does the DME need to be opened?

And I am pretty sure he is not messing around with trying to do CARB stuff either. Just off road use only
