They are really awesome track pads. I've been using it on my Camaro, it performed really well while I was pushing 10/10, and I will be continued using this on my M3. They are just too cheap to say no.

I ran these pads on my previous F30 335 on track with great results. I also ran a set on my F80 for the better part of last year too. Combined with some RBF600, I had zero brake fade even when keeping pace with the advanced group guys.
The dust is atrocious, as is the noise. But these are track pads, that's par for the course.

Someone had a set of these explode on them in a single track day.

I started with powerstop trackday pads when I had my 1st track day with my m3. I have some experiences with them on my camaro before. I was very satisfied with the performace. After finished 3 sets of them, I used pfc 08 just for comparison, to see how they are different.
At first, I felt the pfc has so much more initial bite. The padel feeling was more solid (use less power to have more brake force). And pfc has thicker materials, and holds up to 5 track days with extremely abused. With the Powerstop one, they last only about 3 trackdays maximum. They have less materials and pretty thin. BUT!!! They don't squeal that much on street, and performed just as good as PFC on track. PFC squeals LOUD all the time from 40mph to 0. So, whithin the price, the lost of initial bite and pad life is worth the cost! |

Has anyone noticed that Powerstop PST1609B doesn’t cover the full face of the rotor, there is about a 10mm space between the inner lip and the pad. This makes me think that these were designed for the f3x 340mm and 370mm rotors as those share the same brake pads.
I was under the assumption previously that the 340mm, 370mm and 380mm all used the same pads from compatibility guides on various sites as well as various Bimmerpost forums, but I also bought a set of EBC Red DP32130C which had this same 10mm gap. Upon further research, ECS tuning showed that F8x uses EBC Red DP32360C instead. Luckily the ebc red’s are still in return period so I’m gonna get the proper ones. Anyhow, I wanted to know if there is an F8x variant of Powerstop Track Day. I highly doubt it due to even Powerstop’s website saying that it uses PST1609B, but I really don’t want to spend crazy amounts of money on a track pad since I’m still a beginner. But I’m also wondering if there’s another cheap track pad I can run instead. Otherwise I’m just gonna run the PST1609B (since I can’t return them) and hope my brand new rotors don’t wear terribly from the 4 track days I have planned this year. |
