Nobody is sure why the judder developed in the first place. Although I'd love to know the exact answer why - I'd still be more than happy if the problem never came back again (even without knowing).

Guess we should all periodically check back in on this thread with any new developments/information as we go - the more collective knowledge we assemble here - hopefully the more likely a "root cause" will be identified and a more long-term solution also identified...

It is due to below mentioned reasons:-
- when the lining on brake pads has been worn out and the metal plate is contacting the rotor.
- When your disc brake caliper is worn you will often hear squeaky sound that should not be ignored. It also leads to brake pads vibration while trying to stop the vehicle.
- Difficulty in pushing the brake pedal is a frequent sign that the disc brake caliper is out of alignment.
- Excessive heat or smoke coming from the wheel area.

Not this issue.

This issue is happening on new and slightly new cars. Mine started after I started to push it at 1,200 miles.

This is a pad compound issue.

Yes - per the post above - I have not had any of those symptoms - I got the very noticeable brake judder after only 3,000 miles on new rotors and pads - after got those replaced dealer did not see any abnormal wear or tear on pads or rotors - my guess is therefore pad compound issue...

Why hasn't BMW issued new pads for those who are experiencing this issue? Im sure this has come to their attention? With all the money they make i think this would be an easy fix for them.

Excellent question. Hopefully they change the specifications of the pad material for the OEM Compound Pads and use a new pad compound going forward (hoping that is what the case is for my newest set of pads/rotors)!!

Yes I couldn't agree with you more. How would we go about starting this complaint and who do we address it to?

We address it to the CEO of BMW and given the number of A++ tuners that support our community that could verify the facts and have proved the solution I think we should really push this forward.

If somebody would co-ordinate the thread and we provided name and chassis number then we would effectively have a list of cars with the issue for BMW to review.

I cannot see how they can then argue?

I took my car in for its routine service at a different dealer and they ( the shop foreman) again acknowledged the issue and made me a follow up appointment with a loaner and for them to have a regional rep. come out and look at it.

The appt. is in 2 weeks. I'll keep you all posted

I had exactly this done they asked the regional rep to drive the car and the conclusion was this is normal for the M cars as they make more noise than normal BMW's - which I found very hard to swallow as an excuse

They then said it was likely my aftermarket wheels were making it worse

Why can BMW not just fix the solution for us all!

It's obviously an issue and one that should not be happening.

I suspect if they get enough complaints, they will update the pads (which is what I believe to be the issue)

I didn't have this issue in my E90 M3. Pretty much same rotors, just different pads.

I might try the M performance pads when they are released.

Didn't happen on my e60 either. There should be enough people to file a complaint and i don't wanna pay an M tax on performance breaks when they couldn't get the standard breaks on the performance car right in the first place. Enough with the profits and give back to your loyal customers.

Oh man, I have not driven my car for one week so I back up my car from the garage today and I heard that noise from the brakes and it sounds like its grinding on something. This is a very loud noise. Very noticeable and I only have 165 miles on the odometer I will take it in have the dealer and have them fix that when I do the break in maintenance in a few months. Hopefully by then they have a fix or maybe just requires replacing some new rotors again.

Wow, figured by 2016 this issue would be solved but apparently not. I'm part of this club I guess. Has anyone tried an aftermarket pad that handles this better. If BMW isn't going to fix it maybe an aftermarket company will?

We shouldn't have to be forced to pay extra pads when we purchased a luxuruious sports car. The point is to get this fixed as im sure we all still have the warranty. Seems to me like BMW cut corners with these pads and dont want to pony up the extra cash to fix this for people.

I don't disagree with you, but I'd rather fix the problem myself instead of waiting on BMW which probably will take so long that my lease will be over before it's fixed. I'm sure I as well as others are hoping this can be fixed sooner rather than later. Let's be real, this is a few hundred dollar fix and an hour or so to swap the pads.
