Brooklyn Grey G series M4 in Chester UK

Apart from the grille..... Looked OK. It was wet so couldn't get a decent picture of the carbon seats but they looked epic

Those wheels. Not my cup of tea, but a cleaning nightmare.

Some elements I like but can't get over the bugs bunny look. Doesn't look like the rear seats are as useable as F82?!?!?

Still have mixed feelings about these. From some angles that front end seems to work, until you look at it square on.

Very keen to see how some of the aftermarket front ends are coming along in development such as those offerings by Prior Design and Evolve.

In my mind, it's extremely unpalatable to spend £76k on this then more to fix it, when my F82 has probably hit it's residual value and is no longer depreciating, and still puts a smile on my face.

Plus second hand DB11 values are touching £80k!

Hopefully this one is a demonstrator - I'm going to be taking it out for sure

Ha ha - they START at £76K - nearer £85K when specced. Ludicrous for an M4. I got one up to £99K the other day. Hilarious. You just wouldn't pay that money for a BMW, let alone an M4. They have lost touch. And £12-ish K off still doesn't cut it. I most certainly wouldn't have one. Looks like primer too in that colour - but changeable I guess...

When the 4WD version comes out this year, that will be nearer £80K to start no doubt...

As much as I want to like it, I just cant sadly.
I used to drool over new BMW's, I remember seeing my first M4 and thinking I have to have one some day but the last year or two from BMW have left me cold. Sad times.

I know the feeling. The below thread contrasts the reaction to the F82 when this was officially showcased. 53 pages of adoration.

When I saw this, I knew I had to have one!

Sorry to be a G series hater!

Interesting to see that thread and the complete difference to the G series threads!

Indeed. BMW it seems are no longer interested in designing classy cars.

Those guys that sell their stock wheels to upgrade to aftermarket will have it tough. Maybe the 440i guys will buy it, although they'd have to like the 19/20 look

I really do wonder what the value of these will be in 4 years... the GFV BMW put on them is £30k for £80-90k cars people have been speccing... I know that doesn't necessarily reflect what the market value will actually be but it actually seems right for this first batch - they seem to be churning them out and stocking up showrooms with them but there is little evidence people are actually queuing up to buy them as new cars. Crazy when I think I specced one of the last M3s in 2018 and there hasn't been a factory order on an M3 available for pretty much 3 years.

Then when you add in that the model most would want (xDrive) isn't going into production until July (I assume we'll start seeing them at the end of the year) and then promptly gets replaced by the LCI the following July you really wonder who would want one of these pre-LCIs new or 2nd hand. That's just looking at it financially before you go finding people who actually think they look nice enough to fork out £80k - and an xDrive one will be £80k once specced as I would want it assuming you can get a £25k discount.

Looking forward to hearing proper unbiased reviews on how they drive - I wouldn't want it to be numb-er than my current M3CP (don't get me wrong it is very good - but then it should be - but it could be better) - the direction of travel the brand is heading and the extra weight makes me think it will be dynamically closer to an M5 than the current M3... But let's hope it has at least one redeeming factor (besides just being a new car)...

Oh, and another vote for buying a car that has been painted rather than just primed

I do wonder how well these are actually going to sell given people's general reaction to them - hopefully the values go south and in 2-3 years I'll be able to pick one up for a decent price

BMW have lost the plot with their pricing on the M3/4. They looked at the RS5 and C63 and thought yea, we can charge that much too. Numpties.

Maybe they have built in the usual BMW discount factor into the pricing? It does seem odd that BMW stand out as being the discount brand, that the competitors don't entertain.

I assume they have - given people are already reporting being offered £13k discounts before it is even launched... But I'm not sure that helps... even now with non xDrive you can spec a car to be £95k without too much trouble so by the time xDrive is out and assuming they will have doubled the discount by then that still makes a well specced one £80k which is just too much even if you like it... Assuming you factor in depreciation when you are buying - and if the GFV BMW are putting on it is a clue (I think it is) - then that is £50k you are spending on a car if you keep for 4 years. I wouldn't buy a Merc or Audi as for me they don't offer the kind of engagement I'm after - that is why my money would now be on a 992 Carrera S. It won't cost you any more as they don't depreciate anything like the M3 does and it is in a different league (and they look OK too)... That is the issue with the price point they have moved into... If you want the space making the 992 the wrong car then you would just get an M5 for not much more at all - dynamically I don't reckon it will be night and day from the G8Xs but we'll have to see on that once unbiased reviews are available...

They just seem to have got it wrong on so many levels - but then they clearly don't want my money and have a different kind of customer in mind...

Hmmm - not sure about that. Discounts are currently around £13K, but then that was generally achievable (and more) on the previous gen, yet started around £15K less (as competition and with DCT) than the Gxx. Numpties!

Completely agree with your comments. Once you're in that $80k bracket your choice becomes very broad, and although I really love my M4, if I was considering changing it I would be spending my time on the Porsche configurator, knowing exactly what it would cost me, and knowing the depreciation would be a lot better.

When they aren't selling.....which they won't at small discount level......the discounts will grow.

I've had an M2/3/4 and should a prime target for BMW again this gen.

I'm out for sure, just don't really like it.

Will see what an LCI might bring but ideally G87 would have me back in an M and a manual this time around. Providing the fix the F22/87 pedal offset.
